The Press Secretary today noted that the White House is ready to welcome Ukranian refugees. She also noted that many may want to stay close to their home country so they can go back.

There may very well be an influx of permanent Ukrainian refugees before it is all said and done.
According to the below article, they already make up a generous portion of refugees that enter this country even before the war.

So my question is what does everybody think about an influx? Is the current state of Ukraine enough to qualify them as refugees.

My position is that I agree with Psaki to some extent I think a lot will want to stay close but what about those who want to use the war to move here? What do people think?

Canada has issue priority for Ukrainian refugees.
Ireland has waved all VISA requirement for Ukrainian.
Poland has said they will accept anyone with a passport.
Slovakia will accept anyone no question asked no limit on numbers.
Pretty much all European countries have fast passed refugee for Ukrainians.

That’s good to hear. Are any of them for permanent stays or more temporary refugee visas?

both depending on the people, some refugees wishes to return others will become citizens.

That is wonderful news. My granddaughter has a friend in Ukraine, she’s an American citizen, but her parents are not. I’ll be curious to see what happens with the family.

What ya mean that’s Melania.

I don’t mean to bring Trump into the thread. Just saying similar situation.

Call the American immigration office, they likely will get priority.

their first priority is to get to the Polish border.

Actual refugees welcome with priority status and no vaccination required.

And the Afghani’s weren’t?

Who said there weren’t?

I seem to remember a big outrage about them on here not too long ago when Biden pulled out.

Yea about Biden abandoning many. But what has that to do with your question? Who claimed they were not war refugees?

My girlfriend works for an organization the helps resettle refugees in Michigan. She also teaches ESL classes. A lot of Afghani refugees since last summer. Stories that make you want to cry. I told her last week to get ready for Ukrainians.

Again if I remember correctly there were more than a few on here that didn’t want us taking Afghan refugees…

I am sure that is how you Remember it. Not surprising at all. The only thing I Remember is we can’t take them all. Which we didn’t.

…that have not been properly vetted and if our southern border is an example of our vetting system, “we” are in trouble.

Problems like Ukraine, Afghanistan, Central America, etc., should never be problems for just one country. Every country should be in these things together and part of the solution.
