It appears that our Senate doesn’t want to have a trade war as badly as our president. Makes me wonder what else they’re going to do.
"With no debate, the Senate unanimously passed a bill that would cut or eliminate tariffs on toasters, chemicals and roughly 1,660 other items made outside the United States.
Nearly half of those items are produced in China, according to a Reuters analysis of government records."
The White House has not publicly taken a position on the so-called miscellaneous tariff bill, which has now passed both the Senate and the House of Representatives unanimously. The two chambers need to resolve minor differences before they can send the legislation to Trump to sign into law.
So the House voted to pass this unanimously as well. Will Trump actually sign this into law?
I was wondering the same thing. I think maybe because a trade war with them will do a lot more longterm damage where the relationships with our allies can be at least partially fixed with a change in leadership
Well I guess it doesn’t matter. But with it being kinda on the downlow(resolution wise) he may just sign it quietly. Presidents don’t normally like veto overrides. Publicity wise that looks bad.
True. But then again, we are talking about a man who has no normal equivalency to compare against either. And I suspect once the two chambers reconcile their minor differences to finally get a bill to the President’s desk, it will become the most talked about item of the day/week as well. How will someone as petulant as Trump react, when across all of cable they are opining about Trump caving in and blinking in his trade war, etc. Can his ego handle that?
Wow- yup I knew that there was going to be a revolt in the Senate that would lead to legislation- but I am surprised by the unanimity- and I am especially surprised that the House okayed it unanimously too. Wonder if Trump will have a tweet about this…
White House tour group member who gets offered a special meet and greet with the president and oh by the way can you hand him this three sentence bolded quintuple spaced document?
Toast always makes me think of the below Mitch Hedberg bit:
I did a movie with Peter Frampton. He’s a musical genius, but I don’t listen to his stuff. So I had to continuously try to draw attention away from the fact. Hey Frampton! Do you like toast too!? As do I. It is warm and crispy and the perfect place for jelly to lay. Now stay away from me Frampton, I ain’t got ■■■■ else to say to you!
