U.S. Opposition to Breast-Feeding Resolution Stuns World Health Officials

RIGHT!!

And communism would not be communism without Gulags and oppression. Under Capitalism, you are free to worship anything you choose. If you chose the almighty dollar, then so be it. Communism forces you to worship the state. AND communism and socialism have every bit as much greed as any other system. People are people, they will always be on the take. Capitalism is the worst form of government. Except for all of the others.

I don’t even care if we are exploiting people and using up resources at unsustainable rates. This is what God intended when he commanded us to be faithful stewards. God bless American-style Capitalism.

Interesting topic. I will say the Trump administration is doing this for the wrong reason but I believe they are doing the right thing.

First off, in poorer countries women are often forced into work to support their families and breast feeding may not be an option. Plus, the formula option can be given by anyone, such as grandparents. Its fairly nutritious and while breast milk has advantages in the early stages of childhood (mostly the first few months) continued breast feeding without supplementing nutrition can lead to chronic dehydration of the child and in some cases, starvation.

We are seeing more and more cases of exhausted Mothers and starving children in the ERs these days. One ER Doc had a child that actually died of malnutrition and she had the kid latched on almost all day.

Breast feeding advocates simply will not allow the fact that for some children, it doesn’t work. Lactation specialists are the worst offenders, they simply will not acknowledge the frustration and anxiety this brings to some women. Shaming Mothers into thinking they are bad parents if they don’t breast feed is common behavior these days. Once the child loses an appreciable amount of weight or fails to thrive they must be started on solids or formula, but breast feeding advocates often push women to try breast alone to the child’s detriment and the parent’s eventual anguish.

Quite simply, the more money you have the more likely you can afford to stay home and breast feed, and if those babies are doing better it has more to do with your socioeconomic status than what your baby ingests. A study out of Ohio state proved it in 2014. Breast is best is only meaningful when you can afford to do it and the child is getting the nutrition they need.

There is an organization called Fed is Best to counter Breast is Best, founded by a woman who accidentally starved her baby to death. Heartbreaking stuff and worth reading about.

Well we agree. We are adding over a million people to this country each year through immigration. That is a city the size of Cincinnati. Gobbling up resources at an unsustainable rate. Paving everything in sight and destroying wildlife habitat. These numbers must be reduced before it’s too late.

How do we change the market conditions that make it so that people want to live in the big cities. Currently nobody wants to live in the rural areas because the jobs are predominately in the city.

We don’t. Why would we want to pave the country side and wild areas? What we should do is stop stuffing the country with more people. I took a vacation to a barrier Island in the Gulf of Mexico. About half of it has been developed. In ten years, the entire Island will be paved. I don’t see that as a good thing.

What’s your solution for over-population?

A good start would be to start enforcing our borders, removing the illegals, and keeping legal immigration to a half million or less per year.

I’m also fine with the idea of keeping the total annual immigrant quota at 1 million and we subtract from it the rise in illegals each year when setting the quota for the next year.

Start with one million.

ICE gives us an estimate of 250,000 new illegals for 2016, so limit legal immigration to 750,000 for 2018.

We don’t have unlimited resources in the US and we don’t need to keep filling our cities with poorly educated low skilled workers who can’t afford the housing already which just gets more and more expensive as demand grows.

Greed works pretty well. Combined with birth control you have a solid start on controlling population growth.

I don’t have one. But I think it is stupid to contribute to the problem purposefully.

Yes. This.

I’m doing my part.

Why is it so many on this thread see women as incapable of making their own decisions about how to feed their babies? Should nobody be allowed to advertise their products?

In my husband’s native country, fertility clinics do extensive advertising on very visible billboards. Should I blame them for the number of orphans who don’t get adopted there?

Of course not! Everyone here would be calling me a nut, & rightfully so.

But women formula feed in these developing world countries, it’s assumed it isn’t because babies are having difficulty latching on, or moms aren’t naturally producing enough, or even there might be conditions more prevalent in some areas (for example, higher rates of HIV+ in some African countries—but that poorer women are easily lead & buying into formula advertisements.

That’s one hell of an assumption to make about women in poorer countries. Incidentally women where my husband comes from make up their own minds & buy formula in the cities, use a wet nurse known to them in more off the map parts.

These instances of exhausted mothers & malnourished infants in your ER’s are sad stories.

I’ve worked with two burned out paramedics. One would get sent on calls to bad neighborhoods to assist families whose babies had been crying all day.

“Sir, did you feed the baby?” Nope.

Now you’ve got me wondering if dad or other male relationship didn’t feed the baby because one or both parents were clinging to the idea that 100% breastfeeding was best for every baby for as long as possible.

I have, of course, said no such thing whatsoever. At no time have I said any negative thing about women or their decision making.

My comments have been directed towards the heavy handed conduct of the baby formula manufacturers and their government puppets.

Its quite often the case. Advocacy for breast feeding has led to sit ins at Target stores because Mothers insist on feeding their child literally anywhere in public they please, and without a coverup. If offered a quiet place to feed their child some go apoplectic.

And the shaming for Mothers who use formula is systematic these days, and it begins the moment of delivery. Lactation specialists are there on the spot to push for full and exclusive breast feeding and often ignore dangerous losses of weight or dry feces in the diapers, which indicates dehydration.

I remember my Mom (God rest her soul) telling me about the day I was born. I was crying constantly even after bottles of formula. They eventually gave me some rice cereal on DAY ONE and I knocked right off to sleep.

Its dangerous to stigmatize feeding children by methods one deems is not ideal, Fed Is Best, no matter what form it takes.

Why? Shouldn’t they be free to advertise? They’re not forcing anyone to buy their products.

And again.

I never insinuated they should not be free to advertise.

They should not be free to lie, which they have been doing in abundance overseas as to their products.

They’ve had sit ins everywhere from Target to public swimming pools to be allowed to nurse any & everywhere, with or without a coverup.

It got so silly some years back in the Dallas Metro area a mother was upset because a saleswoman wanted her out of a fitting room where she was nursing. Maybe someone wanted to, oh, I don’t know, use that fitting room to try on some clothes? Make that saleswoman a commission & the store some money?

The kicker is in the photo that accompanied the story, the baby girl was a toddler with teeth & big enough to run around the department store. I wish advocates of this one size fits all approach to feeding would just disappear into the dust bin of history, where they belong.

Forget the praise of booby! If nursing is doable, fine. If it isn’t, formula does not equal starvation.
