Not many drug addicts in my area. No meth labs. Most crimes are speeding tickets. No ones been murdered here in my life time. Can’t think of a home break in since I’ve lived here. Our crime rate is about zero.
My husband and I have made our own jobs in rural America. We were not ones to sit and wait for some one to give us work. We have also passed on our good fortune and helped young men who needed someone to cared about them. Life is what you make of it and if you aren’t willing to gamble with the little you have you are always going to have less.

Good for you. I am glad that you have found happiness in your life.

My wife and I started to implement our early retirement plan to rural Maine a couple of years ago. Hope to be moved out of NYC in around 10 years.

I don’t disparage anyone for where they happen to live, but I do find it odd that the “conservative” narrative from some has taken on a pro rural tone that is not in line with “conservative” values of personal responsibility.

Here boss man was talking about moving it research center closer to the people that they are suppose to work with.

Not every place is suitable to grow the talents of a child. Those are the wrong places for that child.

I’ll even be nice and give an example in favor of flyover country. A kid who’s talented at karting has no business farting around in the middle of NYC, and his dad needs to get the boy to a place where he can get track time easily. If I’m raising the next Lewis Hamilton, then Manhattan is the wrong place for my kid.

It’s go-kart racing. It’s very expensive and takes a lot of commitment from the parents if the kid is going to have any chance. Moving/putting a mortgage on the house is expected for any middle-class family who has hopes of getting the kid competitive and visible to sponsors.

Around age 8-9, I would have to make a choice on whether or not I’m going to open or close this door for my kid, which includes making sure he’s living in the right area to really pursue it.
