No, it’s not OK - I think that kind of behavior is terrible. Those LEO aren’t representing any issue you are protesting. They are there to keep the peace and force laws. That’s it. They don’t deserve to be shouted at.

And, as a gun enthusiast, canyon help me to understand the nexus between protesting stay at home orders and the desire to dress up with a bullet proof vest, and a rifle, and all the other trimmings?

If it was a 2nd amendment rally, of course that makes sense. I just don’t understand how the outfit advances the cause of arguing to lift stay at home orders.

I have no real problem with carrying. Put ive found most (not all) people open carrying are doing it for attention. All open carry does is make you target #1 for the bad guys. Plus if your that worried about going somewhere you feel the need to carry you might reconsider going there ( I know there are valid reasons to carry but most people don’t have them)

Sure, that makes sense. If you felt the need to protect yourself. But why did these protestors go the full monty with the soldiers of fortune get ups?

And do people really carry around rifles for personal protection? Your explanation makes me think of people carrying a pistol for protection.

I guess they wear those “get-ups” for the same reason as fly fishers wear waders, or athletes wear cleats and football players wear pads & helmets. they serve a purpose.

as for carrying a rifle vs pistol for protection, given a choice i would pick a rifle or shotgun over a pistol and for myriad reasons, one being the visual deterrence of a rifle over a pistol. However your question has strayed into the tactical-vs-practical use of firearms and is not really a political issue.

I would ask them if I could. I asked here because it is a forum I know to be populated with many gun enthusiasts. I thought they might shed some light on the question, since they hare an interest with the people I can’t ask.

That’s what BLM got wrong. They didn’t carry enough guns.

BLM probably was intimidated by the memory of how when Black Panthers carried their rifles at the State Capital in Sacramento, Governor Reagan pushed through one of the toughest gun laws in the nation.

Far less likely to happen to you being openly armed at a protest however. If you were to take part in one.

As someone who attended many protests while unarmed I have to admit that being shot never crossed my mind. I’ve been tear gassed a few times, but the effects of tear gas not long lived.

In three days we we be at the anniversary of one time I can remember protestors being shot in the United States. At Kent State University a group of draft dodgers threw rocks at rifle toting draft dodgers who opened opened fire. and killed four. The only lesson I can draw, is “don’t make armed draft dodgers feel insecure.”

If it is a 1% of rain, I don’t bother with the umbrella. Do you think there is a greater than 1% they will need that gear for their protest?
