They are not any other US citizen. They are also Citizens of that country that is holding them. Special circumstances. If they wanted complete US protection they should have renounced their other citizenship.

Having dual citizenship does not negate the fact that they are American Citizens and just as entitled to our nation’s protection. You will not find any law or ordinance stating an American with dual citizenship is a lesser citizen.

Since they kept their Saudi Citizenship (or if they were US citizens first and became Saudi citizens without renouncing like they should – in my opinion), the US should play no part in their arrest and let their laws play out with their citizens.

cite an example of a president ignoring their own intel and claim SA didn’t do what we know they did. Or really, any other country…cite an example of a POTUS publicly siding with a foreign government over the opinion of own intelligence agencies.

But from them we would at least gotten the stern “Bad Saudi Arabia! Bad! Don’t do it again- now here’s our latest military tech”.
