From 2019 when using tariffs as a negotiating tool was cool.
Bernie Sanders said he would use tariffs as a negotiating tool if he wins the White House but slammed President Donald Trump’s latest maneuvering in his trade war with China.
He didn’t win the nomination, let alone the presidency, so not that cool.
Further, Bernie is talking about tactical and focused tariffs. Not blanket ones.
What Trump did was stupid mostly because he got the same concession he would have had… and he didn’t need to temporarily crash the market to do so.
Yes, I would pretend it’s different too.

And keep in mind the tax on a product is paid at our ports of entry, before it enters our market for consumption.
And when do you think Trump would have gotten those concessions? The only way to stop bad behavior is to make the consequences of that behavior worse than the reward.

Wasn’t that money already approved by Congress??? So when ■■■■■■ bag Joe withholds funds that congress approved, to keep his son from being investigated and that prosecutor was fired, he bragged " AND SON OF A BITCH- HE WAS FIRED!!" You Libs had a collective orgasm over that. But let Trump threaten tariffs on nations abusing our good will, let Trump withhold funds being used for flat out evil things against our country and you Libs go bat ■■■■ crazy. Promises made are not the same as promises fulfilled. But I’m sure you make no distinction. Let me try again: Since these concessions were made by at least last year, why weren’t they fulfilled by the time Trump took office? Whatever you claim Mexico and Canada were doing to “help” keep illegals and drugs out of our country clearly wasn’t working. Bet we’re going to see a undeniably tremendous decrease in both- and VERY soon…
Canada and Mexico made the same “promise” to Trump. Neither have fully implemented anything.
Canada announced on Dec 17th 2024 I believe. It has barely been a month. How fast do you expect them to implement 1.3 billion worth of border security?
Maybe it was. But if it wasn’t… what makes you think what they offered recently would work better?
We’re talking specifically right now about Canada and Mexico. They’ve known since Nov 5th that Trump was being inaugurated on Jan 20th and he’d made his intentions clear throughout his campaign! He said he was going to close/ get control of our border on day one AND he has made it clear that he was going to impose Tarrifs on countries that took advantage of the US, both in terms of trade and cooperation on stopping the flow of illegals and drugs into our country.
For all your talk about the concessions given by Canada and Mexico last year, the fact is they’ve done diddly squat to cooperate with us in either regard. Mexico has been aiding illegals and the cartels for years, whether due to fear or bribes and Canada has been lax in helping our border situation AND taking advantage of us in trade.
Of course Trump doesn’t expect billion of dollars in improvements to occur in days, or weeks, but putting troops on their borders like we did doesn’t take weeks, and if it actually did, that would only be due to incompetence or corruption of the countries leaders. Whichever the case, Canada and Mexico are dragging their heels, and sometimes lighting a fire under someone is the only way to get them to move. It’s telling that Canada and Mexico both jumped when Trump made it clear that the tariffs were actually going to be imposed. If they didn’t care about Trump imposing tariffs they would have told Trump to pound sand, like the Saudis did to Feckless Joe when he went begging hat in hand for them to lower oil prices. Both Canada and Mexico blinked, and the tariffs weren’t imposed after all. Results- that’s what you get when you have a leader that doesn’t just squint and whisper " DON’T" like jackass Joe.
If Trump’s wins are loss for you, get over it or you’re going to have a miserable 4 years, but I’ll bet you’ll take all the tax breaks and every other great thing that Trump has enacted or will enact, like a good hypocritical Lib. Just be sure to pat yourself on the back in self loathing as you do so.
