She was certainly not just ambling around as a tourist. As I said her actions should not have resulted in her death but she did play a role in deciding to do certain things that day that played a part in her death.
We have been told countless times on this forum by cons that if someone had just complied with law enforcement they now would not be dead. But in the case of Babbitt that does not apply
There is no evidence to even suggest that that Babbitt was cognizant of Byrdâs warning that he would shoot the first person to come through the doorway. Never mind that to do so (use lethal force) was illegal. This situation bears no resemblance to the incidents where a cop shoots someone who refuses to heed direct commands of an arresting police officer.
Its irrelevant if she heard his warning or not. The very act of trying to climb through a locked door via a broken window in the capitol building that day contributed to the end result of her being shot dead.
I get you want to make her out as blameless and even though she did not deserve to die, her actions put her in that place at that time. Actions have consequences.
Just stop. The comment regarding her not hearing him was in response to you saying she should have complied with instructions given by the cop. Byrdâs action in shooting her were entirely illegal. The police have exactly the same burden as you and I do with respect to using lethal force. Regardless of the minor crimes she may have been committing, she was not posing an imminent threat to any person.
I have never said she was blameless. You can stop with that lie as well. Illegally putting yourself in the position where a cop may kill you does not in any way excuse the illegal use of lethal force and killing by the cop.
I never said it excused him nor did I say he was justified in shooting her. My only point is her actions put her in that situation which ultimately led to her death. But I get it you somehow dont think actions have consequences.
Yep ⌠You blamed her for being shot. There were thousands of other people there that day, some whose actions were far more serious and criminal than hers. Why werenât they shot?
Do you hear yourself? By your reasoning, if the cops open fire on a mob of people on the streets where some of them are being violent, itâs okay to shoot them because they shouldnât have put themselves in that situation.
Maybe itâs not the first line of action the cops should take, but if some of the rioters get shot, by their actions they expose themselves to risks. And maybe it wouldnât be the cops who shoot. (Kyle Rittenhouse.)
Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has said deceased Capitol rioter Ashli Babbitt was trying to stop other January 6 protesters from breaking into the Speakerâs Lobby.
Greene shared a video to Twitter on Friday and asserted that Babbitt had been wrongly killed when she was shot by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officer, Lt. Michael Byrd, who has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The claim that Babbitt was attempting to prevent rioting or damage at the Capitol is not new. Fact checking site PolitiFact reviewed claims that Babbitt âwas fighting to halt the mobâ in January, 2022 along with videos used to support that claim.
Not only did they lie about the part Ashley Babbitt played. . . . . . .
the Biden administration lied and said several capitol officers were killed that day. Not one officer died that day. One officer died of natural causes after J6.
They had him laid out in the Rotunda and paraded while they fake mourned and put on a big production. Another leftist stage flopped. It was sickening the way they used the death of Sicknick and his family.
No argument from me that Harris was a terrible candidate. Biden has to take the lions share of the blame as his own hubris did not allow for a proper primary to take place.
I also suspect Harris played a part in encouraging him to stay whole at the same time undermining him via other channels in the hope he would drop out so late in the race that she would be the default candidate. I posted this theory back in 2024 on this forum. All very âHouse of Cardsâ.
Yeah Politifact did investigate it and found no evidence that Ashli Babbitt was trying to stop anything.
A new narrative circulating online takes those claims further. âAshli Babbitt tried to stop antifa false flag on Jan. 6,â said the title of one video posted Jan. 19, 2022.
âShe was trying to stop those people from busting up the place, and then had to flee from them,â the speaker in the video said. âThatâs why she went through the window, and then got shot, got assassinated by that f------- rent-a-cop.â
The video offered a conspiratorial retelling of what transpired during one of dayâs most scrutinized moments, when Babbitt attempted to climb through the shattered window of a door leading to the Speakerâs Lobby, where lawmakers were being evacuated. It relied on an interpretation of Jan. 6 footage from a right-wing outlet that made unsubstantiated claims about Babbittâs words, actions and frame of mind in the moments before she died.
In reality, there is no clear evidence that Babbitt was fighting to halt the mob â or that the attack was a false flag spurred on by antifa.
