No, they didn’t. 0.6% of the total population has died. That is not what the WHO was talking about. They were talking about the percent of people infected who have died, the case fatality rate or CFR. In March they said that CFR was 3.4%. Today that number is 3.2% globally, and 3% for the US.
This is what WHO said in March -
Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.
