Trump to commute blago sentence

It was on the harsh side for a first offender to begin with. The sentence was for 18 counts, 5 were thrown out on appeal. So even if the sentence was justified, it no longer is. Making him serve it isn’t materially different than tacking on a couple of charges he was never convicted of and adding them to his sentence.

If that is what you deem law and order, count me out.

You know I remember how you felt about this when he got sentenced and it was something you thought you could hang on Obama because he was a Democrat from Illinois right?

Same. It serves no useful purpose to keep Blago in the can. He’s paid his debt.

I wouldn’t argue against this. I do think the timing is intended to give the finger to the Left, and to cushion the blowback from the inevitable Stone pardon.

Even with this information evident…the voters of Illinois still voted for Pritzger. Hell, they would have voted for Blagojevic again if they could have.

I mean I understand the way @NebraskaFootball feels…but I live just outside of Chicago in NW Indiana, and I know all too well the Chicago land and Illinois Politics. And Maybe that is why I feel like his sentence was too long. It is the way of the world there…and as we see, the Current Governor was just as guilty of things that Blagojevic did, and he got elected…despite that. It’s the people of Illinois who have the problem…Not the people they elect. They keep going on doing the same practices…no matter what and the people keep electing them.

His sentence was long than is typically served by those committing aggravated assault, rape, or aggravated robbery.

I’m no fan of Blago but the sentence was not commensurate with the crime.

Do you know who has actually worked for prison and police reform? Democrats and who actually promoted the police to be more brutal? Twump. One major difference between you and me is i dont ignore the total record for a few simplistic soundbites that i dont understand what even lead to it. Another difference is trump haters encompasses a much wider array than gushing fans. That array includes: Mitt Romney, David Frum, more moderate conservatives, libertarians, corporate democrats, blue dogs, pelosi, supporters of the Iraq war, people who support our kurdish allies, (including me) evangelicals who actually stuck with their beliefs, leftists, etc. Twump and his supporters have acted like abusers who expect undying loyalty and will gaslight and sneer at anyone who doesnt adore donald trump. The economy will be just fine as it was before him and i think touting emplpyment numbers you are not able to show which specific policy has lead to them will not excuse his rampant racism and selecting white nationalists to direct his immigration policy. Its time to end this.

Trump actually enacted sentencing reforms while democrats used it solely to pander and did nothing for two decades.

It was black democrats in fact that pushed hardest for the harsher penalties for drug and gang convictions in the 90’s.

You and by you I mean you personally were apoplectic when Obama was letting dudes out of the clink once they passed the sentence they would have gotten under the new sentencing guidelines.
