maybe you’ve heard of fungibility?

According to a report Friday morning in The Washington Post, the Trump administration ceased stockpiling the vaccine at the end of last year and began shipping doses directly from the assembly line. Officials with the administration have said they are confident that pharmaceutical manufacturers can meet demand now that they have achieved a consistent pace of production, The Washington Post reported.

“They” is who?

I think Azar is talking about guidance. The states were holding it in reserve because that was the CDC (Fauci) guidance.

That guidance has/will change. Same thing happened in Europe, they dropped it faster.

“They” is the Trump administration.

Once again:

When Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced this week that the federal government would begin releasing coronavirus vaccine doses held in reserve for second shots, no such reserve existed, according to state and federal officials briefed on distribution plans.

Right. And told the states to change the strategy. End of last year is two weeks ago.

No state has yet run out of vaccine.

You are misunderstanding the issue.

Exactly. No warehouse full of second doses.

Silly when the Moderns 5 dose vial actually yields 10 or 11 doses.

What’s to misunderstand? The Trump Administration said they were going to release a huge stockpile of vaccines- there is no stockpile.

The states were holding in reserve for the 2nd dose. They were told to.

I thought the fed was.

Why did you think that?

dunno. Can’t remember.

Either way, seems like states are still swimming in vaccine. Not sure this will be an issue. But disturbing if they say they are going to release more, when in fact they don’t have more on hand.

which state has run out?

30,628,175 delivered

11,869,478 administered

39% - a little over 1/3rd. They need to stop whining and start sticking.

That’s not true. There has been much discussion about eliminating or delaying indefinitely, the second shot so that more people can get some immunity. The rationale being that 300 million people with 70% immunity is better than 150 million people with 90% immunity.

Where was Biden going to get the stockpile that he promised to release?

Because they believe that it makes Trump look bad.
