Trump Pays $2M fine in charity fraud: no one notices

Donald Trump Sr, as well as children Jr., Eric, and Ivanka were ordered to pay a $2M fine to several charities to settle frauds committed by the Trump Foundation.

It is easy to imagine how big this story would have been had it been a judgment against any prior President. But under Trump it barely made the front page and it will only survive as an independent topic here for a few hours until the moderators push it into their ever expanding “Trivial Pursuit” section for burying crimes by the President.

When Trump took office there was a lot of punditry about how the inspirational aspects of the office and the interventions of mainstream Republicans would turn Trump into a mainstream President. That has not happened. Instead, Trump’s standards of behavior – both his lack of business ethics and his denigration of opponents have become an acceptable standard for Trump’s supporters.

How does anyone square defrauding charities with making American great. Do Trump supporters think defrauding charities is acceptable… or is it just the cost you are willing to play to allow Mitch McConnell to pack the courts?

Doesn’t move the needle these days.

“Foundations” that rich people set up are not the altruistic entities they’re claimed.

Small potatoes, Sad. :us::elephant:

Witch hunt!

Imagine if Oba…

Never mind

Didn’t they commission some artwork?? People are saying it was beautiful.

I would love to hear what some Trump supports think of this.

This is good news. One small foundation exposed for illegal activities and another huge one to go. If Trump had to pay $2M, can you imagine what it will cost the Clintons…or is that different? :sunglasses:

Of course your fine with trump committing crimes.

Except the Clinton foundation has no record of scamming. It has a 4 star rating by Charity Navigator.
Trump is a charity scammer. Sad.

Welp, if the Clinton Foundation is involved with illegal activities, I would assume that they were/are/will be investigated.

Convictions & law courts VS. internet memes
That’s what makes them different.

Do republicans stand for anything anymore?

The first difference is that the Trump Foundation kept its financial records secret (no surprise there). The Clinton Foundation’s tax filings are available on their website, as are the reports from the several agencies that rate foundations all of which give the Clinton Foundation top marks.

So get off your talking points and do some research and you’ll see why the cost to the Clintons is not going to be as large as the cost to the Trumps.

What a classic Trumpian comment.

Foundations do provide tax relief, positive publicity for those who set them up and some sense of satisfaction to those same people. But they also provide funding for many worthwhile things

But since Trump used the foundation rules in a corrupt fashion, then all foundations must be bad. This is not making America great; this is making America awful.

Nope. Pay up…if that’s the law, I want it applied equally to all. Can you comprehend that or are you so partisan, you’re unable to grasp this concept.

I can imagine it.

But imaginary crimes are already different from real crimes, so no bolded “d” is necessary.

I cannot imagine thinking a person convicted of charity fraud would be a great person to be president.

Hillary lost bro, get over it.

Then you should be fine with the Clinton Foundation since they’ve done nothing wrong.

Did you swallow that whole or did you notice the pattern of large contributors getting meetings with her as SoS?

At least 85 of 154 people from private interests who met or had phone conversations scheduled with Clinton while she led the State Department donated to her family charity or pledged commitments to its international programs, according to a review of State Department calendars released so far to The Associated Press. Combined, the 85 donors contributed as much as $156 million. At least 40 donated more than $100,000 each, and 20 gave more than $1 million.
