Trump is vindicated, found not guilty in the Senate. What next?

What he exactly did was violate the Constitution. And in a way that threatens our very democracy.

Here is why:

The genius of our political system is that we have checks and balances. Three branches, equal with coequal powers and checks over each other.

The executive names judges with consent of the Senate. The Senate approves Cabinet nominations as well, along with ambassadors and others.

The House makes bills and allocates funds, which the Senate has to approve before the President can spend it.

In this way, not one branch of government can have total power. If the executive or a judge steps out of line and violates their oath of office the House can initiate impeachment, which the Senate can then either approve or disapprove of.

Checks and balances.

The House approved, on a bipartisan basis, money for Ukraine. The Senate approved it and the President signed it. That money is locked in stone unless the executive, who spends the money, can relay to congress whether a deferral or recision is in order. If the House approves the executive delays payment.

Deferrals can be because perhaps congress allocated too much money and the President finished the job for less. No need for the rest of the money. All well and good.

Recision, when none of the money is spent, can be for a war that has been averted. No need for the money, all well and good.

But in any case the Congress must be notified before the money is held. What Trump did was hold money without doing that, and doing it covertly, hiding the fact that it was done until the whistleblower complaint emerged. The reason for doing it changed over time, but that isn’t the point, he should have never done it in the first place without the consent of Congress.

When the HoR asked for witnesses and documents he then defied subpoenas. Again, not his right to do so. If he is allowed to spend the money as he likes and to defy any level of oversight you have ostensibly nullified the power of the HoR and thrown the whole system of checks and balances aside.

What you have, instead, is a King. The Unitary Executive. A ruler. He already has the Senate under his thumb and has placed friendly folks in the courts because of this.

He is a fat, 70 something man with sleep issues and a raging temper. On the day he passes, that balance will not be restored. Power is never ceded once obtained. Imagine a Democratic President with this level of power, the power to pack the courts and spend money wherever he or she wanted to without any oversight from Congress.

No one wants that, not even a Democrat.

That is exactly what he did and why he needed to be impeached.

they will obviously never cease their lame brain political vengeance agenda.

No bias, he committed no crimes and did nothing to justify impeachment.

Hang on to that dream. Dem’s are upside down in the polls relative to impeachment. Nobody but leftwing partisans and Trump hating “never trumpers” is buying any of this.

That unfortunately is probably true.

Which polls have the Democrats upside down in impeachment. The trend has steadily shown a small majority in favor of removing Trump. Can you cite polls that support your view or is this polling all in your imagination?

Remember, Trump’s approval is consistently lower than any other modern President, so his hanging onto his base is not a big deal.

You took a lot of what happened out of the proper timeline and out of context.

Trump did not miss any deadline or notification requirement with the hold. He released the funds 2 weeks before this would have happened.

Thanks to the Biden brag video of 2018 Trump was compelled to hold and examine the situation with the new Ukranian President. There was no digging…Biden was taunting the world with his action.

Witnesses and Subpoenas are also subject to the checks and balances of the judiciary.

What we have is all speculation and hearsay with Biden getting treated as though his COI with the Ukraine is above reproach. Biden gets to lock his D primary opponents in for jury duty at a critical juncture of the primary. Those Senators running for president should have followed Sessions lead and recused themselves. Their votes regarding impeachment are tainted. Biden gets to campaign alone, while Sanders looks like he can’t put in a full day at the Senate.

What we have is a state sponsored meddling in the 2020 presidential election…No More …No Less.

Trump will prevail.

Oh, while national approval ratings don’t matter a whole lot he’s running about dead even with Obama at the same point in his presidency.

Nice read. You left out the part about Constitutional Executive privilege, Presidential Absolute Foreign policy and BTW the House blowhards could have enforced subpoenas with Court action; didn’t fit the “Peachment by Christmas” timeline.
Sitting in judgement of a “fat, 70 something man with sleep issues and a raging temper”?
C’mon man.

What’s next? Trump will get reelected while all that Dems have accomplished is to ruin their party. Many are jumping ship and it’s going to be a disaster for them politically…in 2020. Say bye to the House, Senate, WH and judicial appointments. Nice job Nancy, Chuck, Jerry and Adam.

Expect a major party realignment if Trump is reelected similar to what we say in 92-96 with a hell of a lot of dem’s turning R.

It is no clear at all, and you know it. Why do you keep doing this?

They really arent. But what else is new

Of course it’s clear. If he’d committed any crimes they would have been included in the Articles of Impeachment.

Even if he did, we all know that he didn’t “intend” to and we also all know that no reasonable prosecutor would be able to prosecute this because of that. Just ask former AG Loretta Lynch or former FBI Director James Comey. These are two sources that surely…SURELY…you trust?

6 tenths of 1 percent is almost certainly within the margin of error. Hardly a basis for calling anything upside down.

I am not sitting in judgment I am stating facts, he isn’t the picture of health and no one is President forever. He may not be President in a year.

The Constitution works for a reason and a Unitary Executive branch is not in our best interests.

And as far as Congress waiting for the subpoenas, tell me, when did Congress cede impeachment powers to the Judicial branch? When was it that the Judicial branch became the means to implement impeachment? That is not how the founders envisioned impeachment, that the Executive branch (which nominates judges) can simply buy years of time by making the HoR go through every appellate court all the way to the SCOTUS for every document and witness.

It’s farcical on it’s face, it doesn’t make sense.

Being found not guilty is not the same thing as innocent.

I would assume Trump would work to use his office to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.

Why wouldn’t he?
