I know you arnt stupid but …

Why do countries enter into alliances if there is no benefit - militarily, economically, diplomatically, etc?

The world changes. What may have been a reason for an alliance in the past may no longer be true today. That’s why assessing each and every alliance periodically is not only a reasonable thing to do, it’s an imperative for a national leader to do so.

MAGA. I’m not a globalist. I don’t believe it is in our interest to trust our national security to other countries.

Of course alliances can and should be reassessed That’s not what made him an isolationist though

Reassessing alliances from the stand point of isolation is still isolationist.

No it is not in our interest but that’s not globalism. Anyway. Thank you.

No he was not

I disagree but okie

You must think isolationists are isolationists just for the fun of it.

And I can’t allow you to push false information

Not at all.

Nor I you.

There is nothing wrong with ending forever wars or making sure countries contribute their fair share.

I think the article is a bunch of TDS garbage! President Trump was nevera threat to our allies, NATO or the nation, the biggest threat we have to our national and global security is the stale bag of oatmeal sitting in the WH!

Edited to add: The idea of making NATO countries pay their fair share does not equate to breaking up NATO and making So Korea pay their fair share for USA security are things President Trump talked about during his campaign and that “private citizen” Trump talked about and supported for years.

The American taxpayer literally foots the bill for global security and Americans get the shaft on international trade, those are things that President Trump ran on and campaign promises he kept.

The fact that you accused Trump of being isolationist is false information. Just because he didn’t want endless wars or expanding alliances specially for expanding EU and defensive of EU/Europe at American expense doesn’t make him isolationist.

You’re spreading false information and you been fact checked.

I hear Trump privately indicated that he’d support a Nigerian Prince’s efforts to pardon Jussie.

Trump expressed concern about NATO allies not fairly sharing the costs and about continued efforts to expand NATO to the east.

It would not surprise me if Trump raised questions about the idea of leaving NATO at some point. Shaking things up to create new opportunities is Trump’s negotiating style, and it has been highly successful in the past.

Did he set up a trade accord with Canada and Mexico? Is that Isolationist?

Did he broker peace deals in the Middle East? Is that isolationist?

I was stationed in Germany during the early 90’s and saw how our defense of them enabled them to live large on welfare. I was hoping someone would eventually have the balls to either make them pay an equal share or get us out of these “entangling alliances” like NATO. It’s a damn shame he lost. Viva globalism.

I “fondly” remember a West German high mucky muck telling the first Bush administration that we shouldn’t shut down any German bases as a “peace dividend” because it would hurt their local economies.

Exactly. We were enabling their parasitism with our tax dollars.

The second is what makes him an isolationist. That you don’t agree that it’s an isolationist position doesn’t make it so.
