President Trump may be looking to his North Korean playbook in his future dealings with the Iranian regime, saying he was “willing to meet” with leaders in Tehran should they agree to a new path forward on a series of international issues.
The President was speaking alongside Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte when he was asked to weigh-in on whether he would be willing to meet Iranian leaders to forge a new nuclear agreement.
“I would certainly meet with Iran if they wanted to meet. I don’t know that they’re ready yet. They’re having a hard time right now. I ended the Iran deal, it was a ridiculous deal. I do believe that they will probably end up wanting to meet, and I’m willing to meet anytime they want to,” said Trump.
“If we could work something out that’s meaningful, not that waste of paper the other deal was… I would certainly be willing to meet,” he added.
