I would normally agree with you, but May knew exactly what could and likely would happen through this invite. It’s not like she just learned of who Trump is last week or something.

Absolutely. And the timing was obviously very poor for May as well. But by the time her power waned, the invite was already in place.

Nah I don’t think so, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if Farage et al tried manipulating Trump into going after her. Or Murdoch for that matter.

It could of course backfire, either by elevating May in sympathy, or elevating Corbyn when he’s already a few points ahead.

The problem is that Trump has been pushing for a UK visit for quite some time. Wanted a full state visit, carriage ride with the Queen etc etc. Demanded that May prevent any protests from taking place.

Rejecting him entirely came with it’s own risks. Sure looks like it would have been the better option now though.

If there’s one thing you Brits are good at it’s etiquette and procedure. Trump is a two year old. He doesn’t have a clue what etiquette is. And procedure is beyond his understanding.

Giving up free trade with the EU in exchange for free trade with the US would be a massive loser for us, so i’m not sure it works too well as leverage.

It will absolutely further enflame the Brexiters though.

Unfortunately May et al kissing his ass where they can was never going to make up for the protestors and what they will say/do.

Trump might well have demanded that May crack down on all potential protestors in London, but that’s a non-starter politically.

That’s a really good point. Something I highly doubt our President grasps at all. I’m certain he is under the impression that without us the U.K. falls.
