I have no issue with saying Powell lied to the UN. Then or now - now that his passing is days ago.

I have a problem with issuing a ‘condolence’ statement the day he passes filled with snark and hatred.

I guess we’re different that way.

Not a deflection to discuss the point that Powell had the integrity to be able to acknowledge he was wrong, which stands in stark contrast to the asshat who couldn’t just bite his tongue and who never admits he was wrong.

I personally called him a shill, and subsequent events confirmed that assessment.

Nevertheless, on balance 1-he was an admirable public servant, and 2-recanted that testimony. All in all, while he made mistakes, Powell was a great American. He certainly did not deserve Trump sliding him.

Absolution? No, probably not. But publicly admitting mistakes, and taking responsibility for those mistakes is admirable, and should be encouraged in our leaders.
