You are advocating for the power of the police to be able to place under arrest people for not showing the “proper” amount of deference.

It very much matters. If race was not a motivation and Crowley’s character and professionalism are removed as possible motivations, what’s left? Oh yeah…Gates’s behavior…as documented by the video showing his behavior was so over the top, it created the grounds for his arrest. What you are advocating is dangerous. “We” don’t live in la-la land and there is a basic amount of respect that must accompany all of us for both our laws and those enforcing them. What you are advocating will only promote the deaths of many who arrogantly choose to disregard legal commands, by those entrusted to enforce our laws. What you are advocating is absolutely ridiculous and very dangerous.

Being rude is not a reason for arrest.

Not showing a proper amount of respect is not a reason for arrest.

Neither of those things are crimes.

Therefore, placing someone under arrest for that is an abuse of police power.

I am kinda… but not really… amazed that one who calls people sheep would hold the opinion that lacking proper respect… being completely legal… would warrant arrest and detainment.
