the comment made me think that there may have been something underhanded and political was done by the committee in leaving the undefeated FSU out of the top 4…
I understand that FSU’s season was not as rigorous as some others, but undefeated is no small accomplishment… some conspiracy theories are better than others…
I think FSU should have made the tournament, but if they had, they would have bumped one of the two teams with one loss, either Texas or Alabama. So swapping one “red state” team for another.
Today the arguments revolve around the 4th, 5th, 6th place teams. When they expand to 12, the arguments will revolve around the 12th, 13th, 14th place teams.
I have long held an idea that could actually accommodate a larger number of teams (for instance the whole top 25. Or more.) There are areas in the country where a large number of pro-sized football stadiums are located within a few hours of each other. Hold a round-robin, double elimination series that would quickly pare the whole bunch down to 4 teams. Play shortened games using college football overtime rules. Maybe with a minimum of two possessions per team. They could have 6 such games running simultaneously. They could be finished within an hour each (likely less), and then another round, and another… Over the course of a weekend they could end up with just 4 survivors, and those would then go on to play semi-final and final full-length games starting two weeks later, just like today’s 4 teams will play. Only this way it’s not up to subjective whims of selection committees. The teams would decide it on the field(s).
Double elimination would allow for a team to have an off-game and still have a chance to stay in the running.
Couldn’t possibly be they felt Florida State would not be competitive due to their QB situation, and voted for ratings over rankings. Nah, it’s gotta be some kind of kooky conspiracy.
As for Trump blaming DeSantis, unless Teflon Ron can play QB at a Heisman level, I fail to see how he’s to blame.
Rick Scott, an actual US senator in real life, is going to get to the bottom of this national emergency!
Scott says Florida State “did everything they were supposed to do” by going 13-0 on the season and beating two highly-ranked teams, Louisiana State University (LSU) and Louisville.
“Was this a financial decision? If you did the right thing, you should disclose everything. Be up front about it. Disclose what happened, how they made the decision,” he told The Hill.
If there aren’t hearings on the college football playoff scenarios by congress then I don’t think they’re doing their job. Actually, I’d like a Ukraine/Israel/Border Security bill and also you know an actual ■■■■■■■ budget. But hey, that’s me.
