I know the supreme court will reverse this ruling. But Trump has to be really upset by this. I know I would be if someone I put in their position on a federal court stabbed me in the back.
it has little to nothing to do with “backing the regime”, it has to do with righting what the courts totally ■■■■■■up.
party affiliation /=/ race
intent matters
some states are not less equal than others
history is in the past
Race should NEVER be considered in drawing or judging any district, its irrelevant.
If a Republican or Democrat legislature draws a map to favor their respective parties, its because that is what is expected of them by the people who elected them. If the legislatures did not tilt the maps one way or the other the nation would be ungovernable. The reason we have the divided and divisive government we have now, is because they have not tilted the maps far enough.
Every state should draw congressional districts to match statewide voting patterns. If the state votes 55-45 for either party, every district in the sates should be 55-45. If they vote 52-48, every district should be 52-48. If they vote 50-50, every district should be 50-50. The result would be much more competitive elections, way more competitive seats, and much less extreme candidates
How the state votes for President? Governor? Senator?
If the state votes 52-48 for gop President, elects a gop senator and a dem governor or like in Jersey the race for president is much tighter than the race for governor how does your method work?
Then this should be done at the appropriate time…not at the presidents behest. I dont disagree with your logic. I disagree with how and when Texas is trying to do this, and that Trump made them do this. I am guessing that in 2021 when the maps were drawn, the Republicans were satisfied with what they drew. So there should be no reason to change the map now.
representatives are federal. take the average vote for representatives throughout the state and use that. what is the average of how many people voted for a republican rep; how many voted for a dem rep over the last 10 years (assuming decennial census) figure the ratio and use that.
It’s challenging to unpack the DOJ Letter because it contains so many factual, legal, and
typographical errors. Indeed, even attorneys employed by the Texas Attorney General—who
professes to be a political ally of the Trump Administration54—describe the DOJ Letter as
“legally unsound,”55 “baseless,”56 “erroneous,”57 “ham-fisted,”58 and “a mess.”59
