Why would the govt need to be responsible for reparations when plantation (non govt) owners and profit seeking individuals were buying and selling enslaved victims? It’s not reparations. It is an investment. Getting people off of government dependency programs and on to their own feet allows for futher tax reductions, which benefits me.

It cleans up thugs on street corners, which benefits me.

It takes away excuses for rioting and arson, which benefits me.

Opportunity zones do not work in practice. The only way they work is by gentrification of the target hood. That’s it.

No major investor is going to wait 30 years to get a tax free return on their MAYBE capital gains.

In fairness, a lot of drug dealers laundered their money through these programs, since it’s the only way a new business would declare a profit in their first five years and we got some decent soul food joints because they’d just put their grandmoms in the kitchen.

And that’s not a backhanded compliment, I’m all for dope dealers going the Stringer Bell route.

I can see your point. I will rephrase: Within the last year.

Historically, KKK is an abomination. However, when in recent history have they lynched, terrorized black people, rode around on horses with white hoods carrying burning crosses.

His whole plan is about righting past wrongs. That mean finally declaring KKK a terrorist organization. Who would disagree with this?

Well, people who know the law? No such thing as declaring a domestic group a terrorist organization. Well, you can call them that, but it in no way changes how they are to be treated, they still get every protection as every other American. It is precisely reparations. This is exactly the kind of things that were proposed for reparations…no one ever pitched reparations as just giving blacks money.
