If Trump actively promoted masks to control COVID-19 would the media be running stories from experts about why masks have no value?
If Trump created a nationwide mask requirement, would Democrats use it an example of dictatorial powers?
Is the best thing that Trump can do is to leave the question to the states, which is the current policy?

Most libs would praise Trump for doing the right thing. I don’t think you’ll find many people who would criticize Trump for wearing a mask on this forum. Maybe some Trump supporters would criticize him for flip flopping. Some might say he should have done this earlier. However, doing the right thing late is still doing the right thing.

like when he attacked Michigan Gov. for passing mask requirement in April?

I think most people would welcome a President that leads by example. At least one that doesn’t publicly argue with his own task force about the guidelines.

He does not even need to go THAT far. Just use the power of his office to pressure state governors to implement one. He could be doing that instead of advertising beans or threatening schools to re-open.

He spent the first few month openly attacking states that took this serious like NY and Michigan.

Do you really believe that CNN would praise Trump for anything?
They were saying that the flu was more dangerous than the coronavirus and the real story was impeachment. Trump’s travel restrictions were xenophobic. Then they flipped to say that Trump was not doing enough.
I suspect that if Trump said the sky is blue, there were would be fact checkers saying that it is a lie. At night the sky is black; during the day it is frequently covered with clouds that are grey or white. Anyone who says that the sky is blue is a Trump supporter and needs to be canceled.

I suspect you’re wrong. This is not reality.

When news of this pandemic first came to light, libs laughed it off.
When Trump started restricting international travel, libs called it xenophobic.
The leftist programming demands they take the opposite position.

He left it up the states. He is still doing that.
I think that Trump using an executive order for face masks would be counterproductive since the knee-jerk response from a large portion of the country would be to do the opposite of whatever the president says.
I think that facemasks make sense in public buildings in areas with high rates of infection, but situation is different for each part of the US. Keeping it a state decision makes sense.

No he wouldn’t. A begrudging “Finally!” Is the best it would get.

And how many times have the experts said every situation is different? Some regions are in different phases?
There have been plenty of flip flops from the experts and the media about masks:
The logic at the time was that face masks were only of value for health care workers. For everyone else they were a waste or even dangerous.
I would expect a similar flip flop would occur if Trump actively promoted masks.

Lot of what ifs! What if we all just tried it and stopped making a political wrestling match out of it.
