On multiple times Trump has expressed compassion for the plight of children brought over the boarder by their parents. Then a few weeks ago he started sending out tweets blaming the Democrats for his administrations policy. And he did so again today. Is he just this clueless?

No. Not clueless. Deliberate lying, or he just doesn’t care if he’s lying or not. If it’s the latter case, “clueless” has too positive of a connotation.

or the other possibility that he believes whatever he says at that particular point in time is the truth and nothing else because it just has to be since he said it.

If parents don’t enter this country illegally they wouldn’t be separated from their children. So it really is the parents who are at fault.

The fake news stations are hiding the fact that what Trump blamed the dems for is not cooperating to create new laws that make sense for the border.
So you don’t think that a “rant” on MSNBC refers to what is becoming a real problem?
And Trump did not blame the Dems for not cooperating. He blamed them for the problem. Look at his tweet:

Let me clue you. There is no legislation on the books that calls for children to be separated from their families. This is a new policy that the Trump administration put into place. He owns it. But he is going to blame the Dems.
Okay, and then to your point that he is also blaming the Dems for not changing the laws. Tell me, what legislation has Trump or the Republicans on the hill put forth regarding boarder security? Other then asking for money to build the wall, nothing. The Republicans are running the show and so him trying to place blame on the Dems is weak and not leadership.
Do I take it then that you agree with the policy?

The parents brought their children to a very very unsafe place and involved them in an illegal action. They did so at Dem’s request to stick it to Trump. Don’t now pretend you care about the children. LOL… they are little pawns to you people.
JS: Well, most are not infants. Most are teenagers, although we do have a number of younger ones now, more than we’ve seen recently. And they are maintained in a very safe environment not by the law enforcement team at Homeland Security, but put with Health and Human Services. And they are kept close by, and if the person pleads guilty, they would be deported promptly, and they can take their children with them.
This makes perfect sense. I have to wonder why anyone wouldn’t understand this, endorse it and acknowledge that it’s in the parent/children’s best interest? Why would anyone be against this?
Yes…did you bother reading your article? Why wouldn’t you? Children should not be confined with other adults who are not their parents. This is for the children’s protection and I totally agree with it.
I’m pretty sure his boarder policy is that they pay their rents and leases on time.

An unemployed American single father, with his two small children in tow, breaks into his neighbors house; not because he is a bad man. No, he just believes what he will find there will help him provide a better life for his toddlers.
The police come. The father is caught. He is arrested and taken to jail.
Does he take his little babies, his sweet children, with him?

They are taken from him, handed over to CPS and likely put in foster care if no family is about.
Do Americans, such as those now up in arms at the current CBP policy, would they bat an eye when that single father was separated from his children?

So why are they so upset about CBP removing kids from parents who come here illegally?
Seems like major hypocrisy to me.
For the record, I don’t think President Trump needed do any explaining for this policy.
Actually I dont. Opinion pieces have always been that “opinions”. Which is why I do not watch a great deal of cable news because whether it is Fox or MSNBC too much opinion and not enough fact.
However, I also accept that it is not anyone’s responsibility but my own to seek out the facts on an issue.
