Trump Administration Discussed Coup Plans With Rebel Venezuelan Officers

Evidently we were talking with some bad dudes…

“But one of the Venezuelan military commanders involved in the secret talks was hardly an ideal figure to help restore democracy: He is on the American government’s own sanctions list of corrupt officials in Venezuela.”

I don’t see the problem. Seems like a good idea to gather intelligence on the situation and that is pretty much all that is being alleged here. If some military leader in Venezuela wants to tell us his plans for a coup, seems like a good idea to listen to what he has to say.

Nor can I fault anyone for wanting to oust Maduro.

more about the dudes we spoke with…

“He and other members of the Venezuelan security apparatus have been accused by Washington of a wide range of serious crimes, including torturing critics, jailing hundreds of political prisoners, wounding thousands of civilians, trafficking drugs and collaborating with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, which is considered a terrorist organization by the United States.”

And? So what? It is in our national interest to know what is going on in Venezuela and that includes what the bad guys may be planning.

Unforutnately, probably nobody left in the Venezuelan Armed Forces who is NOT a socialist whacko.

As much as I would like to see Maduro’s belly slit open from his sternum to crotch and Maduro hung by his own intestines, I don’t see anybody capable of doing it.

There’s not going to be anyone in Venezuela that is not a bad dude.

My complaint here is that the results when we get involved in the internal strife in another country are usually quite bad.

This was more than simple intelligence gathering.

And again…our track record of interfering in Latin America is quite bad.

Dumb move here.

There’s a whole bunch of people capable of it right across their border.

Who told you that?

How could you possibly know that?

They can’t find a Girl Scout willing to do it? Well that’s a shame.

You make weird arguments sometimes.

You’re regurgitating propaganda.

El Salvador rivals Malaya for the most successful COIN in history. I think it does beat it - relocation.

Panama worked out quite well. As did Honduras.

In every single instance we intervened, human rights were vastly improved.

El Salvador was a bloody decade-long conflict. Honduras is a mess.

I give you Panama but for every success there’s been multiple failures.

What is the average length of successful COIN in modern times?

Honduras is not a mess because of us. It’s a messy place. We did what we set out to do.

You’re out of your lane.

This plays into Maduro’s narrative that Venezuela is being sabotaged by America.

ISIS.

LOL.
