I have absolutely no doubt that Left wing politicians will lead by example, as they always do of course!
You do know the new a/c units don’t contain GHG, right?
The world is not in any need of “saving” in spite of lib predictions every 10 years or so.
Then it becomes time to hunt Greenies.
I think California should lead by example. It’s easy to pass laws when the sacrifice is minimal. They’ve banned, or are close to banning all gas powered lawn equipment. I think that ban was unnecessary. Your average homeowner will make the switch on his own. Of course you’ll still have holdouts.
If they thought the prices of lithium batteries were high now, wait until you have no choice but to buy them. Thank God for the knockoffs. Besides that, the ride on lawn mowers really aren’t that good yet. Most use lead/acid batteries. But their prices are all through the roof.
Now I want to see California take a stand on air conditioning. After all, it’s for the planet.
That’s not the only issue. AC units use a lot of electricity (which very likely has a CO2 component) and they dump the heat direct into the surface atmosphere. Besides, are they going to replace all older AC units with new ones that don’t contain GHG?
I’m a fan of electric weed trimmers now. It took them a decade to get it right the but good brands available now are really nice. I won’t ever go back to gasoline.
I can’t imagine how electric riding mowers work well. How’s the operating time? That’s the main limitation I imagine. Even my gas powered zero turn feels like it doesn’t get good enough fuel economy for a satisfactory cutting time between refills. Granted it is a decade old now. But I did rebuild the carburetor two years ago and that helped a bit with the economy.
I really like the diesel mowers but my God the prices are insane even on used ones.
Battery replacement is so expensive that I will sometimes buy another tool just to get the battery. I consider that a plus
Yeah those batteries are no joke. I got a spare with mine and it was only 30 dollars cheaper than the weed trimmer itself.
But between those two batteries I can do my trimming, those of my grandparents, and the rental trailers.
The battery life is impressive now. Ten years ago they didn’t even last twenty minutes.
As for the OP.
They can rip my AC from my cold dead hands. Keyword there is cold.
100%+ humidity and highs of 98 degrees in the summer where I live. It’s basically a swamp. There’s a reason the US Army used to use Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia as acclimation training for soldiers going to Vietnam. It’s very similar climate wise. Not as extreme as Vietnam but close enough for soldiers to train in.
So I’ll keep my AC thank you. I don’t even run it as cold as a bunch of other people do. About 76.
I’ve got a better way. I just refuse to live anywhere where air conditioning is required to be comfortable.
I have spent over an hour on mine a couple of times in thick grass. It only drained it about 40%.
California deserves what they get because they keep electing dictator wannabes like Gavin (oily hair) Newsom.
Take the riding/pushing element out of the equation. Robo mowers, like a roomba vac. They work really well.
Too late!
The Biden administration announced its latest home appliance regulations this week, targeting air conditioners in an action it said would reduce the nation’s carbon emissions.
The regulations, unveiled Thursday by the Department of Energy (DOE), finalize energy efficiency standards for home air conditioning units, or window air conditioners, and portable air cleaners.
The rules for air cleaners are scheduled to be implemented in 2024 and the rules for room air conditioners are slated for 2026.
You mean CFC’s or HFC’s don’t you? From the link:
Under the United Nations’ Kigali Amendment, agreed in 2016, many countries are phasing out HFCs – those harmful coolants used in many air conditioners – and replacing them with more climate friendly options, such as hydrofluoroolefins, or HFOs.
Similar moves have worked in the past. The Kigali Amendment is an update to the Montreal Protocol that helped to phase out ozone-destroying Chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, in the 1980s.
For 20V batteries I buy the knockoff brands. For example, I bought two Worx 20V 6AH knockoffs. They’re not going to be better than their 6AH counterparts, but they last longer than the Worx 4AH batteries. The cost of 1 Worx 20V 4AH, 100 bucks. The cost of 2 Worx 20V 6AH knockoffs, 60 bucks.
At the 20V level, it’s a no brainer. At some point these companies are going to have to try to compete. Right now they’re pretending they have no competition. They’re going to have to do what the NFL did with their jerseys at some point.
I liked the air conditioners in the 80s vehicles. You could see it coming out of the vents. That was ice cold.
Just bought one myseld. Not becuase of any environmental issue. My gas weed trimmer beeded constant carb adjustment to make it run right. 40 volt battery does my entire 80 by 200 lot front and back. And i dont feel the need to throw it, every time it bogs down and stops running.
