Time to take Philadelphia crime seriously: Temple University President moves to N Philly! (about a block from campus)

I sincerely applaud this move.
The crime rate in the Temple U area has gotten out of hand.
They are having a very serious problem attracting students

  • As a city, Philadelphia has the highest violent crime rate of any major city in the US,
  • As a county, Philadelphia has the second highest drug overdose rate in America
  • Gun homicides are up 35-50% this year depending whose numbers you use.
  • In the past 6 months or so there has been a disturbing increase in violent crime, including home invasions, affecting Temple University students.

I don’t know if this will single-handedly accomplish anything, but if it is part of an overall effort this is a very very positive step.

According to libs people only commit crime because they are simply trying to feed their families.

Well I don’t know the Philly neighborhoods all that well (even though it is my nearest city, but when I lived far from Philly I was hearing about how dangerous Philly has gotten in recent years.

As big cities go, it is America’s violent crime capital.

You’ll never believe where Philadelphia got it’s name? :sunglasses: :tumbler_glass:

Let’s hope he doesn’t go and get himself into any little fights lest he wishes to be sent to live with his uncle and auntie in Bel Air

My nephew currently attends Temple. He lives off campus very close to the actual campus. All his classes are taken in broad daylight as an extra precaution. There are loads of camera’s, lighting and phones all around to alert Temple police of potential trouble according to my nephew too.

Seeing this report on the Temple President is certainly not a bad thing. That being said, I imagine the security detail attached to that family is of epic proportions. Relating to the average Joe is the marketing challenge of how faculty, staff and especially students can feel safer without the luxury of “private” campus police at their disposal and the like…

It’s not what you’re thinking. It’s nothing salacious.

The truth is
William Penn was an avid stamp collector and named the city after his favorite hobby.

My daughter attended the University of Pennsylvania. She lived on campus for both her undergraduate and graduate studies. She pretty much stayed on campus after dark.

Pretty much the same situation as Temple.

Where did William Penn get it from? I’ll give you a hint; it’s from about 2000 years ago and it’s the opposite spectrum of this city…which is my point. Philadelphia has totally flipflopped.

Not even in the top 25.

would you accept “murder capital?”

Philadelphia Has Highest Murder Rate Per Capita Among Country’s 10 Largest Cities

That article is from 1-1/2 years ago.
Try something a little more current

Those statistics are misleading as many of the cities on those lists have tiny populations concentrated in much smaller areas as compared to Philadelphia. You would have to compare specific areas of Philly with similar geographic square footage to make a fair comparison.

When it involves bad guys with guns even the Philly Newspaper will cover it.

Wonder what the demographics of North Philadelphia are?
