They don’t care about “dAtA miNiNg” or hacking or kids.
They can’t stand the thought of a platform 170M Americans use that they can’t control.

Only 50 Democrats and 15 Republicans voted against this craziness? A meager 65 House members chose the first amendment over an imagined threat? We’re probably screwed.
CNN wants to talk about Trump but MTG and Nancy Mace did the right thing.

That’s not quite it here.
the claim is, the government is already censoring tik-tok - the Chinese government.
So the information on the platform is tailored to the needs of am authoritarian and repressive adversarial nation.

Sure, and to counter that, our government is going to do some repressing and censoring of its own.

It’s tailored to my needs.
Massie doesn’t realize that “apps” are essentially websites with a different package.
TikTok would be forced to remove US IP space from their front end access.
TikTok would effectively end in the US, which is ridiculous. Sure you could use a proxy or vpn to access it… but it likely wouldn’t be worth it.

It’s a great debate. Is limiting access to false information that could harm the country censorship, or a duty of the government?
Should the government allow people to lie to citizens in a manner that harms the country and advance the causes of other countries?

You’re a tik-toc influencer too? What’s your handle?
VPN is so easy to install on phones these days that I bet more people than you think would utilize it.
LOL, every time I travel abroad I install a free trial version of a VPN app on my Ipad - for the sole reason of downloading ■■■■ from Netflix , my cable app and other streaming to watch on the flight home as i’m otherwise restricted from doing so. Then I obviously cancel it before being charged.

As always, the problem is who decides what is “false information” that requires censorship. Until that problem is solved, we shouldn’t entertain your question.
Other than TikTok and China, what else does this apply to? Advocating for Russia in the Ukraine war? Claims that Israel is committing genocide? Should the government allow that kind of hyperbole?

Just the fact you can type this on a random internet site, and not be harassed by the government, proves you are wrong… Equating the US government with the Chinese government is just crazy…

So, banning would be pointless?
