Weird. Seems like there are other things to call it. Like an autonomous zone, which is straight of the syndic lexicon. Like all instances of an A.Z., this one will also be temporary. And it will probably end with a few arrests and a community theater retrospective.

It’s not insurrectionary. They aren’t in rebellion; they are squatting a couple of blocks after the cops backed out.

Sadly, the only coherent insurrectionary impulses in this country are reactionary, part of the malformed great backlash of white resentment politics, and the slide into tinpot authoritarianism that accompanies it.

we don’t have autonomous zones. when armed insurrectionist decide to take one, we call that insurrection and open rebellion. I hope it does end with a few arrests, sadly, it didn’t end with a few arrests for the people killed there. The national guard should have been called in on day one and cleared them out. They should all be being tried for insurrection and rioting right now. And the council member who let them in city hall should be being tried for treason.
