A group of senior Republican legislators are now receiving a full security detail at the US Capitol; raising serious questions over the lawmakers’ safety after weeks of protests and widespread demonstrations.

Sens. Lindsey Graham and John Kennedy are among those with a heightened security presence including the uniformed Capitol Police and the Deputy Sergeant at Arms.

“This is dangerous. I had somebody that wouldn’t let an elevator shut. An Iraq War veteran. I appreciate his service, but I just have a different opinion of Judge Kavanaugh,” Graham said. “I tried to make that clear.”

Sen. Graham has come under fire from left-wing activists over his full-throated support for Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court in recent weeks.

“I believe Judge Kavanaugh will be confirmed to the Supreme Court very soon. However, if his nomination were to fall short, I would encourage President Trump to re-nominate Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. It would — in effect — be appealing the Senate’s verdict directly to the American people,” said the GOP leader.
