The war on Venezuela (the war on drugs) (regime change)

Trump’s approach is to avoid publicly ruling out options even if the likelihood of using them is remote.

Trump may try a quick air strike and declare victory. A long war is likely to be a disaster.

Maybe go back to teaching that ■■■■■■■■■ of “Just Say No.” It worked so well before

Even if he has zero intentions of it, why would he rule them out?
[/quote]Actually he said he was considering it.

Nah … They’d still find something to whine about.

Of course not. At least not publicly. No CIC should do that. That would be stupid. Never tell your opponent what you won’t do.

That’s standard CIC policy, not “Trump’s approach.”

That goes hand in hand with not saying he won’t rule it out. Keeping them guessing is good policy.

As long as it stays in the ocean, I agree, it’s less problematic.

Even on land, if it doesn’t kill anyone other than cartel members (particularly no women and children,) it’s not problematic. There might be some loud whining (you can count on that for anything Trump does,) but no real problem. Looks at Iran.

yeah JD as POTUS.

Senator Rand Paul notes that the boats that are getting bombed off the coast of Venezuela can’t possibly get to the US without refueling multiple times, and Venezuela is not a source of fentanyl in the US.

The legal basis for Trump’s bombing campaign is highly dubious. Arrests and trials are the correct approach if there is real evidence of drug trafficking in violation of US law.

Congressional action is required if we are going to fight a war.

I don’t think that’s going to happen.

He’s correct.

I agree. Marco perhaps, but not JD.

I remember when I was a student at UT Austin, ages ago, a member of the Students for Democratic Action (ultra left) was claiming what horrible racism it was that we were willing to use the atomic bomb on Japan but were not willing to use the atomic bomb on Germany because they were white.
Actually, since Germany surrendered before we had a usable atomic bomb it would have been bad form to use it on them after they surrendered.
In any case, the people of Dresden would have laughed at that argument, if there had been any left.

The associated press had a journalist go to Venezuela to find out about the people who had been killed on the boats we sank at sea. He did a tearful story about how it wasnt just cartel members, but also a fisherman, a bus driver, laborers, and a motorcycle rider. Unfortunately for his story the bus driver etc were in fact running drugs at sea for money at the time.
I have to give him credit that he told the truth about that.

No. Read it again.

Yes.
“In dozens of interviews in villages on Venezuela’s breathtaking northeastern coast, from which some of the boats departed, residents and relatives told Garcia Cano the dead men had indeed been running drugs but were not narco-terrorists, as alleged by the Trump administration, or leaders of a cartel or gang.”

What was that old lyric “I don’t consider myself a freak but I like to freak”
