When Trump and Republicans took a steadily growing economy, gave out massive tax cuts to rich people under the lie that it would increase growth, and then followed that up with both a trade war and the promotion of Brexit.

Yep, agreed. We have been on the longest growth expansion in the history of the country. It is an inevitability that the good times do not last forever. Too many bubbles need correction.
People in the media have no influence on public perception.
