“On Feb. 21, Maine’s Democratic governor, Janet Mills, publicly upbraided Donald Trump over his transgender policies.
Here’s what happened after that. Out of the blue, the Trump administration canceled a contract that allowed parents in the state to apply for Social Security numbers for their newborns by simply checking a box on a form at the hospital—the way parents in all 50 states have done for decades, as the Social Security Administration has said.
The change meant that new parents would have to bring their infants to one of only eight Social Security field offices in Maine, sometimes by traveling for hours, exposing the newborns to infectious diseases in public“
maybe maybe some of the more sane MAGA can explain this mean streak in our Current POTUS.
it was clearly trumps revenge on the citizens of Maine for their governor calling out trump on his trans policy.
why else would he terminate the contract to get SSN for babies just born.
Lee Dudek, the acting commissioner of Social Security, issued a press release Friday, stating that the contract allowing parents to apply for their newborns’ Social Security numbers through Maine’s healthcare agency, along with another through which Maine authorities reported deaths of Maine residents to the Social Security Administration, had been reinstated.
I don’t understand why they don’t try to work with him. They might be able to get a deal out of this president they will never get out of any other republican president yet they want to just stand there and hold placards. Viva la resistance
They could maybe give Trump a win grant a border wall in exchange for Medicare for all or something big like that if they just would quit being whats that word oh yeah liberals.
I’m not saying it will happen. I’m just saying that this president is an unusual Republican that doesn’t stick to the party line per se. They won’t get the chance again.
I really wish people would look at the different types of social healthcare’s out there. One cannot compare the Norwegian healthcare to let’s say Canada It’s not even in the same leagues the nords do it well. The Canadians are the ones with the huge wait lines.
Just like the day that Trump issued the spending freeze EO, and before it ever went into effect, the Medicaid site went down. I don’t consider it out of the realm of possibilities that some TDS insider created some “accident” that caused it.
And likewise I don’t discount the possibility that a disgruntled insider triggered this to drop, to create bad optics.
Sure, it happened under the “Trump Administration”.
Paul Ryan’s gone but I would say there is a possibility the next republican president will be just as likely a Paul Ryan figure more than a Trump figure.
So then ya all that stuff zero chance of happening.
We don’t only have TDS, we also have people suffering from PTTD, post traumatic Trump disorder. It happens shortly after election day. weather balloons might be grounded.
It was found and fixed? So no retribution on Trump’s behalf? Just a glitch. How many newborns were transported and subjected to diseases, is what I want to know. I want a number.
Awful. Just terrible. Throwing open the borders and allowing gang members to flood sanctuary cities, no big deal. These babies, all 2 dozen of them, that had to be transported before it was rescinded, that’s catastrophic.
“Found and fixed” is a lot different than caused and reverted. It doesn’t seem that clear why it happened though.
Lee Dudek, acting commissioner for the SSA, wrote in a statement on Friday that he earlier directed the agency to end two contracts that would have affected the State of Maine, including the enumeration at birth program and electronic death registry, but has since reversed course.
“In retrospect, I realize that ending these contracts created an undue burden on the people of Maine, which was not the intent. For that, I apologize and have directed that both contracts be immediately reinstated. EAB and EDR continue in place for every state and were not affected,” he wrote.
This does not sound like “found” like they just stumbled upon an error.
“Acting Commissioner Leland Dudek said he recently directed Social Security employees to end an Enumeration at Birth contract for Maine. He said he will “admit my mistakes and make them right” by reinstating the contract.“
