The Senate closes out for legislative business for the year with a "soft" adjournment, some last second nominations confirmed, one treaty ratified

I quoted the entire Senate floor log for today, this is the final business day of the Senate for the 115th Congress. The Senate will convene at 11:50 a.m. tomorrow and will simply “sit” for 10 minutes until the 115th Congress expires. The new Senate will then convene at 12:00 noon.

A number of United States Marshals, United States Attorneys and Career Foreign Service Ambassadors were confirmed. No patronage Ambassadors were confirmed. No Article III Judges were confirmed. A Judge was confirmed to the non-Article III D.C. Superior Court. Sundry minor executive branch nominations were confirmed.

A minor treaty of a technical nature was given assent to be ratified.

Tomorrow’s pro forma is necessary to block any possibility of a Trump recess appointment.

The Senate will convene for a pro forma session at 11:50 a.m., and then the 115th Congress will adjourn.

The 116th Congress will convene at 12:00 noon.

Following the prayer and pledge, the certificates of election will be presented. Senators will then be sworn-in in groups of four. After the swearing-in, there will be a live quorum. After a quorum is established, the Senate will adopt a number of housekeeping resolutions. Upon completion of the opening day business, we expect Leaders McConnell and Schumer to deliver leader remarks.

Following leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business.

7:21 p.m ML McConnell spoke about federal spending.

4:00 p.m. The Senate convened.

There actually were two patronage ambassadors confirmed in the above group, one to Australia, the other to Kenya. The remainder were careerists.

The union of Comoros is strange name for a country iv never heard about is it real? lol

Yes it is. It is a small group of islands located between Madagascar and mainland Africa.

Its always a small Island! there is one off the coast of Newfound land that is part of self-governing territory of France.

Comoros achieved independence from France in 1975.

Things are getting feisty in the Comoros. Two smaller islands are paranoid the big island, and its ethnic group, are too dominant. Read an article in the Economist about it the other day. Strange place.

20 coups since 1975.

I think it mentioned that. Crazy. I guess coups are easier on island states. Little harder to mobilize a resistance haha.

"The Senate will convene at 11:50 a.m. tomorrow and will simply “sit” for 10 minutes until the 115th Congress expires. "

Your tax dollars at work, folks. Again.

Actually, it was a necessary procedural move to block any possibility of Trump recess appointments.

And as it turned out, it was NOT a complete waste of time.

One final nomination was confirmed at the absolute last moment. :smile

Executive Cal. 1048 (William Charles McIntosh to be an Assistant Administrator of the Environment Protection Agency). Agreed to by Voice Vote.

You’re bitching about 10 minutes?
