Friday at Mid-Ohio - the Indy Lights are the first guys to take to the track…
.
…for their one and only practice session before they qualify for Race 1 of the weekend, on Saturday. On top of the session was points-leader Kyle Kirkwood, with some different competition, nearby.
.

Notable:
-
We fully expected Kyle Kirkwood to lead the parade. The guy may as well build a house in the infield and charge rent for the place. This is his best track. But, we were fully unprepared to see the Juncos Hollinger duo of Sting Ray Robb and Rasmus Lindh in P2 and P3. No reflection on them - both superb drivers - but Juncos cars have been terminally slow this whole season. It’s as if someone looked inside the car and finally found a big, red button that says, “Go faster”.
-
We’re also not surprised to see Benjamin Pederen as the top HMD Motorsports driver. Benjamin has found a 7th gear in the 2nd half of the season. He will be formidable if he stays in the Lights in 2022.
-
Kyle’s title rival, David Malukas, at least made the TOP FIVE, but he was 0.7153 seconds off the Floridian’s time. He has done well at Mid-Ohio in the past, with several podiums, but this cannot give him much hope.
-
Antonio Serravalle has been absent for a number of races, but wanted to get back into the last race weekend. He and the team have been hinting at good news for 2022.
.
Antonio Serravalle - back with us.

.
Kyle Kirkwood - expectations met, so far

The Lights will hold their qually sesson for Race 1 in the morning on Saturday, then hold the race in the afternoon. Next up, Indy Pro 2000 holds their practice…
