Sunday morning at Mid-Ohio - the Indy Lights qualify for Race 2…
.
Conditions on the track for Indy Lights qualifying were not much better than for USF2000, a half an hour before, as the track was spotted with rain and very wet, all around. The Lights did get in just enough running time to make it an official qually, but not without significan incidents.
.
Here is the way Indy Lights will grid for Season Round 20, with times for the TOP SIX: [R] denotes rookie

Notable:
-
The first car off in the treacherous conditions was Benjamin Pedersen in Turns 4-5, followed by Christian Bogle in Turn 7, followed by Kyle Kirkwood in the Carousel. Finally near the end of qualifying Manuel Sualiman also went off. All brought out red flags, which invalidated their fastest laps. Nevertheless, Ben and Kyle were able to get in other quick laps sufficient not to start at the rear.
-
Kirkwood was only able to get in a very late lap after getting a new nose. At the same time, David put in the pole lap. With his pole, Malukas can STILL win the title - If he WINS the race, leading the most laps, and Kyle finishes dead last.
-
Kirkwood will likely NOT take any chances in the race, unless and until someone else goes out, finishing last, but Kyle cannot let everyone pass him, either. He has to finish better than last to collect his title. He has lost his chance of besting Greg Moore’s single season WIN record, but at least he tied it, at 10 WINS.
.
The late Greg Moore

.
David Malukas - there’s still a chance!
