The race started with a full-course caution, as when the green flag fell Evan Stamer for Ignite Autosport climbed over the top of another car’s rear wheel and went airborne on the front straight. Evan was okay but the car never made a lap. Before the yellow flag flew, however, there was a lot of passing, including Yuven taking the lead from Michael. Prescott Campbell for DEForce moved past Jace Denmark for Pabst Racing to take over P3 while Kiko moved into P5 over Josh Green for Turn 3 Motorsports. Billy Frazer for Exclusive Autosport managed to go from P19 to P10 in the melee while Josh Pierson for Pabst Racing fell from P8 to P11.

The restart came on lap 3 and Billy was quickly up to P8 by passing Myles Rowe for Force Indy. Christian Weir for Turn 3 went to P11 past Josh Pierson while Andre Castro for Legacy Autosport slipped past Ely Navarro for DEForce into P15. At the front Yuven made a small gap sufficient to keep Michael at bay. On lap 5 Myles reclaimed the P8 spot from Billy, passing on the outside of Turn 6.

For several laps Prescott Campbell was after Jace Denmark for the P3 spot and it all came to a head on lap 12 as the two touched going hot into Turn 9, sending Prescott backwards off the track and damaging Jace, who rolled away from the scene. A full-course caution flew to retrieve the heavily-damaged car of Campbell while Denmark slowly motored to the pits, out of the action. This elevated Kiko to P3, assuring him of the title. The race restarted on lap 15 and onel lap later Thomas Nepvue for Cape Motorsports was passing Billy Frazer for P7. That was the last significant pass of the race. Yuven came home 0.7 seconds ahead of Michael who was 1.3 seconds ahead of Kiko.

Notable:

  • The two cautions created a lot more opportunity for restart passing and there was a lot of passing in the race. There was also a lot of dangerous action around Kiko but he managed to stay uninvolved.

  • This was Yuven’s 4th WIN of the season and was d’Orlando’s 5th straight finish in the TOP TWO.

  • DEForce not only took Kiko to the driver’s title, but the team also WON the team’s title for 2021, with the help of the whole squad - Kiko Porto, Ely Navarro, Nolan Siegel and Prescott Campbell. This is their first Team title in the Road to Indy.
