It was 5,000 per day through legal ports of entry. It would have eliminated catch and release and when reached would have cut the number to 1,400. You let Trump kill a bill that would have been an improvement over the status quo all because he desperately needs to be president. That and he scares the crap out of house Republicans.

Can you not understand when it says that the border can only be “closed” like this a certain numbers of days a year? That means all the migrants have to do is time their invasion for days it is mandated to be open. You don’t think the coyotes can’t figure that out?
Further, current law allows for having migrants required to stay in third countries (I.e. stay in Mexico) now. The new law provides nothing as far as closing the border that is not already available. In fact, it would limit the authority of a President who really wanted to close the border to do so.

I don’t understand what the discussion is here. H.R. 2 had a number of items that were going to be non-starters for the Democrats. So they designed a bill that is D.O.A. with House Republicans. So why discuss any bill that won’t go anywhere as is? Immigration reform has expanded why too far IMHO.
I think that smaller sections might have a better chance of discussion to agreements.
