Thanks for the great discussion, those of you who discussed greatly.
I truly enjoyed it.
Nope, read an older book called “The Faiths of the Founding Fathers.” Also the old “The Age of Reason.” Think I might read that one too now that I’ve found it.
Seems more focused toward the question you asked. I recommend the other two books I listed.
yes, I would follow the law in spite of my personal believes whether right or wrong. If I was in a position of power (elected official) I would listen to my constituents who have elected me.

Ok, thanks. Right now I’m working through Dr. Malcolm’s treatise on the 2nd Amendment and a bunch of human performance stuff for work. And I promised my son I’d help him with Boyd’s Loop and something he has on neuro-linguistics.
I’ll look into it when I get a chance.
You may not agree, but can you understand why people might find a strongly held belief in theological Armageddon scenarios incompatible with a government position like the SoS?

Thank you for your answer. So you put “the law” above your personal beliefs?
Is there a “law” that would dictate you advice or say a vote on an issue? What tools would you use to decide “right” from “wrong” when either choice is “legal”?
WuWei
212
No. Not any more so than any other strongly held belief.
I’m not here to pick winners and losers.
Did someone accuse you of that?
WuWei
214
No sir. Just making my position clear. Is someone trying to get me to do it?

There are people who hold a very strongly held belief that fossil fuels are destroying the world. If they have their way, they will destroy my world.
There are others who hold very strong beliefs in the “rightness” of a central government controlling practically every aspect of citizens’ lives; chosen by a popular vote controlled by those in population centers.
There are those who hold very strong beliefs along the lines of them having the “right” to violate the Constitution in the interest of collective safety.
How are those strongly held beliefs more compatible with government service than a strongly held belief in rapture (or anything else)?
Just a few more examples.
It seemed to weigh on you, given that you’ve mentioned winners and losers several times.
So in the most general sense, you make no distinction between strongly held beliefs when it comes to how problematic they might be for someone attempting to serve in a given position?
I’ve been wondering when you were going to get around to this.
False equivalency.

Just trying to get you to understand.
Do you? Who decides and how?
I’m not picking winners and losers.

Around to what? You don’t like my examples? What would you like to see?
WuWei

I understand. How are my examples a false equivalency?
