Isn’t Trump asking for funds for new sections of not yet approved wall?
Didn’t previous legislation provide funds for repairing/replacing existing wall?
Was there more wall that had been approved that didn’t get built? That last question referring to 600+ miles of barriers approved and built between the Bush/Obama years?
Just because they voted for something before doesn’t bind them to the here and now. AOC points out previous tax rates to justify raising them now. If I use the above logic that would make sense. Does that make sense?
Yeah. And if he sets this precedent it will be all the more simple for declaring our mass shootings an epidemic and national emergency.
None of his supporters are thinking this through. They wanted a win, they are awestruck by trump’s celebrity, and they have no will to admit they have made a tremendous mistake.
The money was approved, “Secure Fences Act” but then they never completed the project failing to appropriate all of the money.
Existing law gives the POTUS the ability to use existing funds and use the military for construction work should he declare an emergency without waiting on congressional appropriations.

The accounts are set up for departments and agencies and there’s always unspent money particularly in Pentagon Accounts due to contracts that get canceled, programs that get cancelled or delayed, contracts that come in under the projected costs etc.
Johnson did it to fund his Great Society, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton as well to fund various policy initiatives.
Until we cut the flow to a trickle no matter how many agents, judges, “equipment” we have we’re not going to solve the problem.
The first step to solving any of these issues is to make it as difficult as is practical for them to cross the border in the first place. The second is to stop those that still do from penetrating beyond 50 miles.
There are 800,000 plus backlogged immigration cases, piling more on just makes it even more difficult to even imagine ever getting caught up particularly since 80-90% will never even show up to defend their initial claims.
Once they’ve been released into the interior they are rarely seen again by immigration officials unless they commit another crime in a jurisdiction that isn’t harboring the illegals and refusing to cooperate in their removal.
