Why is that? Because I’m supposed to be about the Rich???..big business.
Here is one example. Indiana…pence Indiana has about a 3.5 billion surplus. In Indiana right now a caregiver responsible for taking care of an individual with disabilities doesn’t get paid the same as a fry cook at McDonald’s.
In 2010 Governor Daniels built that surplus on the backs of 15℅ cuts in all departments statewide. In this industry, there has only been one rate increase in 8 years. I can’t pay my staff more money because my revenues from billing are fixed. The only way I can pay them more is to get paid more and pass this on to them.
Our industry begs for rate increases…because we can’t compete with the retail industry. The work we do is complex, requires complex skills, and the average high school drop out, doesn’t have those skills. So without higher pay, we can’t attract more skilled caregivers. That’s what I talk about when I talk about the little guy.
