That would be part of why it is called a “soft coup”.

Instead of being accomplished with violence it’s being accomplished by abusing the law and powers of congress.

Given this is heading to a trial in a legislative body majority-composed of Republican Senators duly elected to their seats by Republican voters across the country, let me first laugh my face off, and second just call this the most flaccid coup ever.

To harm his presidency as much as possible because without it they know he’ll probably win reelection.

They know that as it sits now there’s zero chance of his being removed by the senate.

There’s also a scenario by which they could make Pelosi President by impeaching both Trump and Pence.
