This was the story of a meeting I misremembered happening on the 3rd that actually happened the next day.

He threw out 10k troops in an offhand way. There was a Vanity Fair reporter shadowing acting SecDef Miller who was at the meeting.

The reporter asked Miller about the 10k number. Miller said the President is often “hyperbolic” and not to take that number seriously. He and the Defense Dept weren’t going to.

Trump made it very clear during the Summer of Love that he was always ready to provide NG troops to secure federsk buildings, but the relevant state authorities needed to request them. When did the DC triad, whose responsibility was the Capitol, request NG troops from Trump?

The Democrats had a negative pejorative anti-Trump narrative ready for whatever Trump did, that the fake media would immediately broadcast as breaking news.

Whose legal responsibility is the security of the Capitol? Why did they allow, or quite possibly engineer, the situation to develop as it did ?ì

It was the Pelosi-McConnell-mayoral call. It was their dereliction of their duty. Trump had already authorised/advised/offered 10,000 NG troops, which the triad had subsequently rejected.
