What the Secret Service thought was going to happen at the time was making it back to the White House.

The people in the White House were well informed of the situation on the ground and the assessment that Pence’s security detail was conveying.

Trump’s response to this information is what we all consider to be bad.

I think a case for dereliction of duty can be made.

The President does not have a duty to try to stop riots. That is solely the responsibility of law enforcement agencies.
