I concur the ACA was not a good fix. Obama basically pushed the conservative plan, thinking Pubs might vote for it…It was good for Ins. Companies, and those with pre-existing conditions. For many, it was not good.
Those deaths were horrendous. Better vetting may have prevented it…but it looks like it was an accident. Very sad. If you are going to blame Biden, I am sure you will hold Trump resoponsible for the all the deaths his policies have caused, and continue to cause.
The series of cruel and illegal cuts to U.S. lifesaving humanitarian and development aid the Trump administration initiated on day one has already cost lives and undermined the entire global aid system. Oxfam analysis of aid cut impact predictions finds that that these actions have led to the risk that a child under 5 could die every 40 seconds by 2030. Already, conservative estimates projected that 200,000 children under five would die in 2025 due to these cuts, leading to the first rise in under-five child mortality this century.
He’s an ILLEGAL ALIEN and you just proved you don’t care either. Now run along…while we observe Trump attempt to uphold the laws we all agreed to that neither you nor Biden cared about. Oh wait…I forgot. You do care about how many ways you can screw tax payers through your Democrat fraud.
On an individual basis, you’re absolutely correct. How hard a person works and the choices one makes will have a SUBSTANTIALLY greater impact on one’s success in life than some government program.
My focus for this discussion is at the level of a state, city, or town. There’s various metrics one can use for better off. Crime statistics, student success, people moving in vs moving out, affordability, is it overcrowded, overall quality of life, etc.
Well I’m not going analyze every piece of legislation that has been passed over the past 50 years or so. Here’s simple analysis though. If the Democrats are so amazing as you say and the Republicans are just absolute ■■■■■ how is that they win any election? Regarding my own views on the political parties, I only really started looking at them more closely about 20 years ago even though I started following politics around the emergence of Ross Perot. Regarding this discussion that’s why I’m just looking back about 20-30 years. I’ll add this anecdote as well. I grew up middleclass in an inner city, dad was a plumber. My parents were actually Democrat voters up until Jimmy Carter and then started voting Republican and never went back. You see all these policies you talk about there’s many people in the middleclass that don’t necessarily reap all the benefits and just see what they pay in taxes every year.
Total education spending has increased substantially over the past two decades. Meanwhile, student performance has declined. According to the Nation’s Report Card, in 2024, only 28 percent of eighth graders were deemed proficient in math, compared to 39 percent who were rated “below basic.” In science, 31 percent achieved proficiency while 38 percent were “below basic.” Likewise, average eighth grade reading scores are down 5 points since 2019.
Semi-truck driver held on ICE detainer after 4 killed in head-on crash
“Not only was Bekzhan Beishekeev released into our country by the Biden administration using the CBP One app, but he was also given a commercial driver’s license by Governor Shapiro’s Pennsylvania. These decisions have had deadly consequences and led to the death of four innocent people in Indiana on Tuesday,” added DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a statement. “It is incredibly dangerous for illegal aliens, who often don’t know our traffic laws or even English, to be operating semi-trucks on America’s roads. These sanctuary governors must stop giving illegal aliens commercial driver’s licenses before another American gets killed.”
