Profound. I want more.

I bet you don’t have half the shield that poster has!

Libs do not decide.

You aren’t even close to understanding why it’s a nonsensical question.

The experiment with this thread is a failure

I don’t think it serves any good purpose that’s not covered under the golden-rule. Historically, where the gentry code of conduct goes beyond the golden-rule, the excess is an excuse to be elitist and snobby.

I dunno, no worse than most threads.

Neither am I, can you explain please.

See you around.

Hate to break it to you but your opinion doesn’t matter any more then anyone else.

Interesting take and I can see that. No doubt it has in many cases. I think of Edwardian culture when I consider your point.

I tend to have a different take on it, likely because of my background and studies.

I think two very important traits of a gentleman are consideration and compassion, and the latter requires another trait I mentioned previously.

I find it interesting that many of the most gentlemanly groups have something in common - the potential for violence. People get real well mannered when everybody is dangerous. You don’t see a lot of petty squabbles in an elite military group for example. The repercussions to offense can be swift and painful.

This is from a movie, The Shootist, John Wayne’s last film. I don’t know who wrote it, but I suspect they found it somewhere:

I won’t be wronged. I won’t be insulted. I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

4 sentences. A very good summation, even if it came from a movie script.

Good post. You made me think.

In case anybody ever asks why most people don’t try to have any kind of serious discussions on this forum anymore.

We link them to this thread. Or the one about AOC being okay with eating children i guess.

And you’re not?

Fair enough.

Look at those movies. There were men running around being screwups all the time. That’s what women have to put up with. Stealing horses, getting drunk, slapping women, shootouts in the street, being lazy and not providing. It’s always been like that. There’s good and bad, and there never was some golden era where all men acted like gentlemen and treated all women like queens.

You can’t go back to something that was never there.

In light of that, women don’t gotta woman the way you want them to.

Did I miss this? Kick women out of politics? Oh no, you completely misunderstand.

My suggestion is for the American male, not the women.

All true. I didn’t say anything about an era. And you obviously haven’t seen that movie.

Woman aren’t womaning at all. They are trying to man. And losing their power while at it.
