It is an addictive force.

I’m glad i grew up without the Internet and phones but I worry about the kids today.

How does reading Romeo and Juliet put potatoes on the table?

Well maybe understanding one of the great writers of the English language might help speaking and writing and comprehension a bit better, can’t do any harm.

Had a good giggle at the ā€œpotatoes on the tableā€ remark though. Nicely done.

Yes it can. There is limited time and resources and that takes away from them.

You talk like Shakespeare at work?

Depends if someone is out for my pound of flesh or not.

I would like for them to be proficient enough at reading to be able to read it, if they wanted to do so.

If you mean read in general, I couldn’t agree more.

Actually, I think they live in a bubble of entitlement, surround themselves with sycophants and have convinced themselves they are the holy grail to education.

The incredibly smug, superior behavior of the UPenn President in her testimony pretty much said it all.

Magill has resigned.

Yep. The college students that were questioned didn’t know where Israel and Gaza were on a map.

I remember reading ā€œTale of Two Citiesā€ as required reading for incoming freshman in the 9 th grade.
That was in 1964 and an awakening.
10th grade, War and Peace.
I’m betting high schoolers don’t have a clue who Leo Tolstoy or Charles Dickens is. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I don’t think reading Shakespeare is of much use in today’s world.

I doubt they do either. How does that help them get a job or eat?

Wasn’t much use 52 years ago either.
