Why don’t you put politics aside and see what is happening with government wanting to force people.

You okay with landlords being shafted by the CDC which has zero authority.

Wake up. This is about you and me and I don’t care about your political leanings.

No i am not ok with any of it really. I have issues not only with the moratorium but the underlying current of it being at least a small part of the cancel rent movement.

That being said when you start decrying the ever coming authoritarianism and slippery slopes and you give them an inch etc the discussion loses any real meaning.

Authoritarians are always there. The power hungry the bureaucrats etc. when you turn them into boogeyman you give them even more abilities to succeed

I’m glad to hear you are not okay with it. Neither am I.

Since when does the CDC have any authority? This could be you. This could be me.

This IS folks who saved and bought a home following all of the rules.

The authoritarianism is here. Worse to come because they are taking an inch and turning into a mile.

While folks just nod their heads and say, “oh what a shame.”

History. That is the real meaning. That’s how it’s done.

Absolutely true. Look it up. I even gave a link for human coronavirus. Plenty of info for the others. I provided the name of the animal precursor of measles which you decided to remove. Rinderpest. You can look that up easily. There is no HIV circulating in non-humans.

I have. Spent two full days in it.

Their wasn’t enough vaccine. You would have needed 10 billion doses at once and then get it into arms.

And couldn’t put it in kids arms either.

That is what the smart thinking is saying. And, that is why our energies must be focused on treating those infected with the virus with known remedies, and research for others, rather than handwringing and absurd and hysterical measures trying to protect the general population from the virus which cause more harm than helping the situation.

BTW, the total daily death rate across the entire United States is under 600 in a rolling seven day average.

The Democrat Party Leadership, once an advocate for hard working American citizens and their families, is now their worst nightmare.

I’m not saying it would have been easy, but you can also look at population clusters other than global, although global vaccination would eventually be needed. Also, at least early on, children were of little consequence when it came to transmission. Unfortunately that looks to be changing.

Look at North America. (And yes, I know you have people constantly coming and going to North America but that’s part of the calculation.) The available vaccines have extremely high efficacy towards the initial SARS-CoV-2 virus. If you were able to vaccinate 75% of the North American population in a timely manner (not children, only those were significant carriers at the time), the protection would be greater than the virus’s ability to replicate and spread. Unless a variant developed elsewhere to which the vaccines had less than 70% efficacy, it would still be sufficient to stop the pandemic in North America even with inflow of individuals from outside the region.

Great point. I wonder what percentage of the unvaccinated deplorables are ineligible?

Generally the numbers are labeled either percent of eligible or total pop.

Yep. Folks have done the best they could.

Hell, the Pfizer still isn’t FDA approved.

What is important is to deal with the here and now, not crying over the past. That window is closed.

Unfortunately, when hundreds of thousands are being allowed to enter the country at our southern border every month, then we get the “benefits” of mutations from billions of largely unvaccinated people from all over the world.

Which makes it maddening to be told every American better hurry up and get the vax to avoid variants as if those billions didn’t exist.

Those little damn petri dishes running around messing up the best laid plans

Somebody should mandate something.

And that raises a very important question:

Why on earth is the Biden Administration filling our cities with tens of thousands of covid positive illegal entrants?

That’s the price to pay for being a globalist.

Folks are so concerned about not being vaccinated while ignoring the elephant in the room.

The amount of those coming across the border, regardless of what size people like to claim, still remains insignificant when compared to the overall US population. Like I have said, and as the math (and real world examples) show, if a vaccine with a high efficacy (which we have) is administered to a high percentage of the susceptible population it is protective even with influx of outside populations. There are two exceptions.

First, the inflow of susceptible unvaccinated individuals decreases the percentage of the overall vaccinated population a significant amount. The adult US population is 258 million. If 75% were vaccinated (193.5 million) you would need an influx of 17 million unvaccinated adults to water that down to 70%, which would still be protective given the efficacy of the vaccine.

Second, a strain arises which significantly decreases the vaccine’s efficacy. There is a wide range of possible efficacy of the current vaccines toward the delta variant. The lower the efficacy the greater the population needs to be vaccinated. If it dropped to 60% you’d need the entire susceptible population vaccinated. I’m sure some will scoff at the NEJM, but I find it reliable and they’ve found near 80% efficacy of the vaccines towards the delta variant after two doses, so that keeps things in the 60% (fully) vaccinated range to be protective for the population. We just reached that milestone. (12 and up are now 59% fully vaccinated). Hopefully it will pay off although we won’t know until the current spike subsides.
