That certainly seems to be the Trumist answer to everything. Having a bad day? Blame China. Got cancer? Send the medical bills to Cihina. Car break down? Tell China to fix it.

Everyone thought about it. Non-working tenants should’ve had access to a generous, boosted unemployment and safety net programs. But Republicans exist so here we are.

Honestly. If there ever was a time for massive deficit spending it is now.

They received a generous $600 extra with their UI until recently. Some were making more on furlough and UI then they were while working.
There should have been no forced shutdown period. Don’t want to see a film or sign your kid up for dance lessons, cool!
The rest of ys should not have had that response forced on us. Those so called inessential businesses like salons, cruise ships and dance studios are the proprietors’ livelihoods.
The free market could have decided if they sunk or swam, & the proprietors could have continued from there. Instead we were forced shutdowns and government subsidies that once they run out, the subsidized are on their own.
Any government control of the economy proves disastrous.
I know several. It’s a thing.

I’m sure you do.
Just two people trying to get by on the backs of another person.

By April 20, just 6% of Floridians who had applied for unemployment benefits had received a check.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said that result was by design.
"Having studied how [the unemployment system] was internally constructed, I think the goal was for whoever designed, it was, ‘Let’s put as many kind of pointless roadblocks along the way, so people just say, oh, the hell with it, I’m not going to do that,’ " DeSantis told a Miami CBS affiliate this week.
There are threads on this board complaining about similar woes in other states. Lots of folks haven’t gotten what they needed and qualified for. By design.
Mass graves were dug in American cities. Refrigerator trucks were brought in to deal with morgue overflow. It’s absurd to say that there should have been no shutdown.

By providing safe living spaces at a competitive price? Um, sure.

My wife and I are mom and pop landlords… even though we don’t have children.
We are pretty good landlords also. Priced in the middle of the market and responsive to fixing problems as quickly as possible.
The type of people we like to rent to are those who are in transition, either with work, or stationed at the coast guard base, or with temporary life changes.
Basically people who are there for a year or two and move on.
If only there had been a program that let people continue to be able to pay their rent.

Well, I didn’t realize the price was at competitive rates.
Which equates to a fair price.
Something wrong with renting homes to people who are not in a position to themselves own a home?

As has been pointed out, the Dems proposed $100 B in rental assistance.
The GOP turned that down.
And the other two points were sheer idiocy. The Dems were against abrupt abandonment of allies because Erdogan rattled his saber, and the peace processes that culminated in the recent agreements started under Bush and then continued under Obama.
So you struck out completely.

It’s a class distinction. An important one.
There is.
It’s called businesses aren’t designated inessential and their proprietors continue working.
Or a way is found for them to work from home

You know I think there is.
Why are they not in the position to own a home?

Really? A majority of Americans were nursing home residents?
It seems some are asked to provide links, but not others. Got a link to these “mass graves”? Only 6% went into them strictly because of COVID-19.
How is forced unemployment, and, as has been pointed out, many waiting even for that first check, supposed to solve the problem?
Any shutdown of businesses should have been voluntary or at least free market, & not forced by state ir federal government shutdowns. That’s just generated more mess in trying to find solutions for everything from UI to landlords’ living expenses.
Some states “screw over” mom and pop landlords without any pandemic. They’re called tenant friendly states, where it’s next to impossible to evict problem tenants.
It’s called not allowing landlords cost of living allowance through foolhardy policies like rent control.
I’m living in one of those states. Lost count of the number of people who’ve told me had the known the grief & aggravation incurred through Commonwealth law on landlords, they never would have rented to anyone.
You have in mind what instead?
Whose helped by not having a fixed, non Post Office Box address? It’s difficult if not impossible to access everything from another job to food & nutrition assistance.
Yet another government program to bail out landlords? Section 8 vouchers for tenants?
Many reasons. They are young and haven’t built up credit, they might have a low paying job, or they are just too irresponsible and have terrible credit, maybe they move every couple of years due to their work. What difference does it make? Sure some landlords are scum, but most are not, and they provide a much needed ‘commodity’.
