OPEC, ie KSA decided they were tired of losing money and started enforcing rigid production quotas to address the worldwide glut that was depressing oil prices.
KSA schizophrenia is basically why I left the industry. They flooded the market, then they strangled it, flooded it, and are back to choking things down again. Starting in 2014 they started the flooding market with cheap crude and and oil went from the $80âs to $26 the day I got laid off from a global multinational. My group went from 95 people to about 20. I still talk to a lot of those guys and theyâre back up to about 40 now.
For a healthy US oil industry and consumer prices that people can plan around and live with, IMO the sweet spot is about the $65/bbl range. Fracking is an expensive way to produce but operators can make a solid profit at that level.
At $65 a barrel they are definitely profitable. I remember reading that under $35 or so a barrel only the big companies are profitable and can run in that environment.
It depends. Deep water can be profitable in the teens the reserves are so large, but youâre looking at projects that run out 10+ years and billions of dollars. On land and specifically fracking in S. and W. Texas, profitable wells at $35 would be extremely rare. $50+ is more like it. Over the last 6-7 years, operators (the Shells, Chevrons, the lease owner) have touted that technology and efficiencies have allowed them to keep running. Which is pretty much horse â â â â â What they have done is beat up rig contractors and service companies on their rates to the point theyâre working for free just to keep working.
I always assume every operator is inflating their reserves and production and lying about their break even point.
$65/bbl is a decent living for a land operator on fracked wells but theyâre not exactly killing it at $65/bbl and all of these shale companies are still up to their eyeballs in debt. Even in this environment some companies are still laying off.

On top of that, they are full of hate, envy, & arrogance. They lead people to hell, & everything they falsely accuse the right of, they do.

Biden isnât a nice guy, it keeps being said of him, but not true, heâs mean, vengeful, & hateful, but thatâs only reserved for his own countrymen, He bows down to our enemies, & sides against our allies with terrorists. Heâs an evil person, & untrustworthy. So is his replacement in waiting, she may be worse. All his friends are dirtbags, especially Pelosi, the kooky Squad, Schiff, Nadler, & Schumer.
