North Korea on Friday handed over the remains of some U.S. soldiers who died during the 1950-53 Korean War, giving new momentum to a diplomatic detente that had shown signs of stalling in recent weeks.
Sixty-five years to the day after the signing of an armistice that ended hostilities in the conflict, a U.S. military plane flew the remains to Osan Air Base in South Korea after collecting them from North Korean officials in the port city of Wonsan.
“We are encouraged by North Korea’s actions and the momentum for positive change,” the White House said in a statement. “Today’s actions represent a significant first step to recommence the repatriation of remains from North Korea and to resume field operations in North Korea to search for the estimated 5,300 Americans who have not yet returned home.”
I hope and pray that this continues and it brings some small comfort to the grieving families who have waited so very long for the return of their loved ones.
Why do you nitpick do much about what is happening and what will happen shortly? You know that if Donald Trump says something will happen, or that something Is happening right now, that nothing can stop the world from conforming to his desire.
Well its still 9am on the Easy Coast. But im a lib and in another thread earlier I said I’m very happy about this. And the return of our missing soldiers would not have happened with out these talks. So thats awesome. But, they have done this before. So i dont want to take a way, but they have done this before talks that dont work out. Hopefully not this time.
